1. CBL Course: usually in the Psych or Education departments, tutoring/mentoring may be an option to earn class credit. In most cases, you will be expected to volunteer 1 afternoon per week (3 hrs approx). *FWS students may not get paid for course requirements
2. America Reads/America Counts (Off-Campus Work Study): must be pre-approved for federal work-study, you will be expected to work 2 afternoons per week and will have the option to add a 3rd day. (between 6-9 hrs per week) Any student interested in securing a paid tutoring position must complete this application AND an MHC JobX application under the CBL position titled: America Reads/America Counts Tutor/Mentor
3. Volunteer: all volunteers are expected to tutor/mentor at least 1 afternoon per week (3 hrs approx).
Attendance Policies for tutors: excepting school and college breaks; all tutors must attend their placement sites consistently, in accordance with the number of days listed above; AND ONLY two (2) unexcused absences are allowed each semester; must let site supervisor AND your program’s Youth Partnership Liaison(s) know at least 24 hours in advance. After a second unexcused absence, continuation in the role as tutor (whether work-study or course-based) will be subject to review. Excessive absenteeism may jeopardize continued employment, course grades, and/or course credit for this placement.
