12th Annual GSA Leadership Summit Workshop Proposal
March 28-30, 2019

The LGBT Center of Central PA and Dickinson College are pleased to present the 12th Annual GSA Leadership Summit. This Summit is an opportunity for students and professionals to meet, network and participate in workshops designed to help everyone better understand and advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, and asexual youth and their allies in Central Pennsylvania and beyond.

The GSA Leadership Summit is the only event of its kind in Central PA, where LGBTQQIA students and their student and professional allies have day-long safe spaces to network, learn new skills and work toward making Central PA a more welcoming place for all people.

This Summit is designed to provide theoretical perspectives, educational practice recommendations, and opportunities to discuss the challenges encountered in high school and college Gay-Straight Alliances, Gender and Sexuality Alliances, and similar student organizations. The conference will provide seminars, panels, and discussion groups for students only, staff only, and for students and staff combined.  Proposals are now being accepted for workshop sessions for the high school student and staff audience for the twelfth annual conference, which will be held at Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA) on Thursday, March 28, 2019 and Friday, March 29, 2019. (We are not accepting proposals for the college student and staff sessions to take place on Saturday, March 30, 2019.)

We welcome proposals that present research-based findings related to “best practices” for high schools, as well as interactive sessions to help build the skills of high school student leaders of GSAs, and theoretical perspectives and their practical applications that provide educational experiences to attendees. Submissions must be received by Friday December 30, 2018.

We especially encourage proposals that focus on topics including but not limited to: GSA 101, building inclusive clubs, being an ally, Day of Silence planning, transgender topics, non-binary gender and sexuality topics, racial and ethnic intersections with gender and sexuality, and any and all workshops emphasizing various intersections with gender and sexuality. We are looking for broad range of topics and formats for workshops, and a diverse group of presenters. We are especially interested in having a mix of student and professional presenters, and encourage professional staff to assemble and facilitate panels of student leaders.

The conference will include lectures, panel presentations, hands-on workshops, and roundtable discussions.  All sessions are 60 minutes in length. Presenters will be required to pre-register for the Summit. Applicants will be notified regarding the status of their proposals by Friday January 11, 2019.
