Adopter Application
Please fill out this form to become a forever home adopter, a temporary rescuer or a transportation assistant.

Keep in mind the people who run this program volunteer their time around their jobs and personal lives. All adoption inquiries will be replied to in the order they are received.

A minimum standard of care must be observed in order to be approved.

This includes, but is not limited to, an aquarium, a source of heat (preferably an under the tank heater placed on the back of the tank above the substrate), and natural play sand/Eco Earth mix for substrate (or play sand only), etc.

20 gallon tank minimum. Extra Small and Small crabs must have at least 5 gallons of space per crab. Medium, Large and C. Compressus (Ecuadorians) crabs must have at least 10 gallons of space minimum per crab. Jumbo hermit crabs must have at least 15 gallons of space minimum per crab.

We do not accept totes as permanent housing. A glass or acrylic tank is required. Exceptions will be made for short term fostering and transporting.

You will receive an email from the adoption team, please answer all questions and email back including thorough photos of your tank.

Once we receive your answered questions and pictures, they will be looked over by the adoption team. Make sure you are sending in pictures of your actual tank and not your PPDS tank. We need to see that you are set up and ready to move them into a stable tank once out of PPDS. Please be patient with us as we look over your application, questions and photos. We might ask for more photos, have additional questions to clarify what we're seeing in the provided photos or request that changes are made according to the standards. Once all the standards are met, we will let you know that you are approved and send you further instructions on how to get adopting!!

We will work with you to improve anything that is not up to standard to help you get approved and to be successful crab keepers. We want you to be approved!

Keep in mind once you're approved your name and email address will be shared with adoptees who request for you to adopt.

Please use care and caution when arranging in person hand-offs and make your own personal safety the top priority.

99.9% of adoptees are C. Clypeatus, the purple pincer crab, Caribbean crab, PP.

We do require adopters to be at least 18 years old or to have parental consent. If you need consent email us a photo of your parent or guardian holding a sign with the current date saying they approve you to adopt from the CSJ adoption program.  Hermitcrabadoptions@gmail.com

You will receive a confirmation email to the address provided on the form. If you don't get an email confirmation, check your spam folder. If you still are not able to find the confirmation email, resubmit your form with a correct e-mail address.
