About Village Underground

Since 2007, Village Underground has been a proudly independent space for creativity and culture in the heart of Hackney. From gigs, club nights to street art and co-working spaces, as a grassroots music venue, VU has always supported emerging talent, including The xx, Jungle, Kojey Radical, Nilüfer Yanya, Self Esteem and Lianne La Havas, among others.

In addition to incubating talent and hosting world class performers, the venue has also collaborated with notable brands and organisations on commercial projects since opening: Vivienne Westwood, Adidas, Burberry and Sony to name a few.

Against a backdrop of fierce gentrification in Shoreditch, VU has remained steadfast to its counter culture roots. In 2017, after its initial 10 year lease, it successfully secured another 15 year lease.

Village Underground is part of VU X Earth Ltd, a new holding company incorporated as a social enterprise and the owner of EartH live music and arts venues.
