TURN UP FOR STEAM STUDENT APPLICATION
The purpose of this event is to increase students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math (STEAM), to promote education and careers in STEM, and to support students, particularly under-served and under-represented students with limited opportunities or access to resources in these areas. This event is geared toward students with no prior experience in computer science or programming. The Turn Up for STEAM event is being offered FREE of charge to students ages 13-18. Thanks to our sponsor and facility host.

Parent/Guardian and student must complete and submit the student application form. If selected to participate, students must be accompanied to the event by the Parent/Guardian/Organization Leader/Guidance Counselor indicated on the application (parents please bring state issued identification). Parent/Guardian/Organization Leader/Guidance Counselor authorization is required (via signature) at check-in prior to student participation. The student will not be allowed to participate without it.

By completing this application, you agree to the rules, regulations and disclaimer included in the event program information. Parent/Guardian, if your student is selected to participate in this year event, you will receive the Release of Risk and Liability Form, which will need to SIGNED by June 15, 2019. Overview
Students will be introduced to Virtual Reality (VR) using the Unity Platform, Python programming language for learning to compose music pieces, and Engineering Design Thinking and Fabrication.

Virtual Reality (VR). This session is for the beginner who wants to get into the world of virtual reality. We will make a Virtual Reality Application for Microsoft Windows using the Unity3D Software. We will build an application as a windows program and talk about how to get that out to the world. At this session conclusion you will be a Virtual Reality Developer, ready to create wonderful VR experiences.

Python Coding. Python is unique in that it’s easy to understand, even for a beginner. Python powers the world’s second-largest search engine: YouTube. Scientists use Python to work with large data sets, build machine intelligence, and software engineers build neural networks and other forms of artificial intelligence with this versatile language.

Design Thinking and Fabrication. This session is for the beginner who wants to integrate technology in our world and public spaces. You will be given the challenge to engineer 1 of 3 ideas that uses technology, like Internet of Things (IoT) enabled technology, circuits, Bluetooth with everyday objects and devices.
