Fort Collins Fringe Technical Questionnaire 2018
Deadline: June 1st, 2017

Thank you for playing a significant role in the 2018 Fort Collins Fringe Festival. In order for us to provide the proper venue and staffing for your work, we will need to understand its content more completely as we move closer to the festival. The Technical Questionnaire is a standard practice at all fringe festivals around the world. We will accommodate your company's needs to the best of our ability, while maintaining fairness among all artists in the festival. We look forward to working with each of you!

Ready?

Please complete this form, answering all questions to the best of your knowledge, and SUBMIT THIS FORM by June 1st. If a question is not relevant to your production, please answer "N/A" in the appropriate space. We strongly suggest that you keep a copy of the completed form for your files by saving it to a PDF before clicking [Send]. A copy will also be sent to the primary contact's email account on file.

Keep us informed! As you become aware of more details for your production, please email us immediately with updates.

The following questions are intended to assess priorities in terms of venue rigging, space arrangement, tech equipment and performance needs. Although responses to this questionnaire will help us provide the best experience for you possible, we will not be able to satisfy everyone's requests beyond basic technical needs. If additional services and/or equipment are needed above and beyond what the Fringe provides, your company will be responsible for hiring and/or requesting the services or equipment. The Fringe Festival may be able to help you find crew at a reasonable rate. Please be as specific as possible when answering the questions below.

Remember that this is a Fringe Festival®. Fringe originally got its name from artists and performers that presented work on the physical fringe of the more mainstream arts festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. The first fringe performers arrived on the scene with practically no technical needs to make a very powerful statement about accessibility and community in art and culture. The point is: Art will and must exist for all people under any circumstances in everyday life. It is important in our society to see that art can occur in any place at any time. Performances have been presented in or on busses, retail shops, rooftops, streets, alleys, restaurants and (yes, of course) theatres and clubs. Our mission (should you choose to accept it) is to present work that is independent, accessible, affordable and community-centered.

IMPORTANT: If you have any technical questions please contact the Fringe at producer@fringefestivalfortcollins.com. Please, only the Primary Applicant should be in touch with the Fringe about tech needs.

The Fringe rents all of its venues and consequently the staff at the individual venues cannot help you with any Fringe related questions nor will they arrange for you to see the space. Please DO NOT CONTACT THE VENUES DIRECTLY! - The role of the Fringe is to coordinate with each of the venues. Please contact us at producer@fringefestivalfortcollins.com if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for Fringing!

NOTE: ALL fields are required. Please answer EVERY QUESTION and CHECK EVERY CHECK BOX. If a question does not apply to you, just fill in N/A. If any of the questions are left blank, the form may not be accepted.

You must provide a stage manager that can attend your technical rehearsals and every show during the festival.  Our technicians do not know your show, and you will benefit greatly by having someone call cues that knows your show.  The Fringe provides very specific services to artists.  If you need any additional equipment and/or technical support personnel beyond what the Fringe provides you will be responsible for the charges.
TIME REQUIREMENTS
All Fringe performances start on time and cannot extend past the running time of the 30/60 minute slot you were given. There will be no exceptions. We will turn on the house lights if you go over time. In addition, there will be a charge of $100.00 per performance that extends past the given time slot.  We will let audience into the house 5 minutes before each show begins.

The time between performances is limited. There will be a minimum of 15 minutes between shows: strike of the previous show and set-up of the next show and Front of House duties will be happening simultaneously. Shows start and end on time, as scheduled, no matter what. (This is to accommodate all performances and be fair.) The festival will make a curtain speech before each show that is 1-2 minutes in length. If your show is exactly your selected 30/60 minutes is length you must communicate this to your Venue Manager in July so they begin your curtain speech a few minutes before your time as to not incur any fees for running over your time slot. If you have a curtain speech of your own this must be done within your time slot and by a member of your performance group and NOT by any festival staff.

Late seating policies are at the discretion of each performance group for their show however the festivals default policy is to allow late seating unless otherwise specified. You are responsible to communicate your preference to the venue manager in July.

EQUIPMENT
SCENIC ELEMENTS:
You will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the venue during your allotted time.

Because so many artists will be sharing the venues throughout the festival, there may be some scenic elements that are not allowed. Please be sure to clear all scenic elements with the technical manager prior to the festival, especially if they could be described as messy, dangerous, huge, or otherwise questionable.

Will you be bringing scenic elements with you? *
Please describe. (stairs, freestanding walls, 18 foot Stonehenge, furniture, sand, etc.)
KEY PROPS:
Because so many artists will be sharing the venues throughout the festival, there may be some props that are not allowed. Please be sure to clear all props with the technical manager prior to the festival, especially if they could be described as messy, dangerous, huge, or otherwise questionable. We cannot guarantee storage of props in any venue.
Will you be bringing large or important props with you? *
Please describe. (giant sledgehammer, bowls of marbles, liquids, a baby's arm holding an apple, etc.)
STORAGE SIZE:
All scenic elements, equipment, costumes, etc. should fit through a standard door opening.

Storage is not available in all venues. For safety and fire code liability, all equipment must be taken out after each performance, special cases can arise and will be addressed by the Fringe where applicable but please be prepared to clear the space after each performance.

We have a "leave no trace" policy at our venues.  Please be respectful to staff and other performers and leave all areas clean when you are done with them.  If the technical manager is left to clean up a messy greenroom, storage area or stage, the responsible company will be charged a fee of $100.00 per occurrence.
LIGHTING PREFERENCES:
In most venues, we will only have lights up and lights down and may not get a complete blackout.
List any additional lighting equipment you want to bring. *
If you are considering bringing any additional lighting equipment other than what will be provided by the Fringe, please list the items and power requirements.  NOTE: We can't guarantee that you will be able to use your own lighting instruments so please let us know if you have any concerns about this.
SOUND PREFERENCES:

If yes, please explain the use and what type of connection you will need (cell phone, ipod, mic, etc.) *Some sound equipment is available at the Music District - Living Room and Music District - Intimate Room. You should never leave the gun in storage at the theatre and should bring it to and from the theatre for every performance.

The only way to use a gun onstage outdoors in public spaces is if the gun is made to look like a prop and can in no way be mistaken for a real firearm by an audience (orange plug in the end, spray painted bright pink, etc).

The Fringe Technical Director and/or venue manager has the right to disallow the use of a gun in a production if local and federal regulations are not followed.
