The Lord has laid it on our hearts to reiterate our mission here at EOA. Without hesitation, our primary goal is to exemplify the love and character of Jesus Christ. Unless our students can see Jesus in us, as teachers, we have completely missed our mark. This goes beyond the basic requirement of having a personal relationship with Christ. To me, this means our lives display the FRUIT of that relationship. What does that mean, knowing that we are all in different parts of our (very personal) walk with the Lord? Well, this is a tough question, and yet it’s not. While my personal convictions may differ from yours, or from my Christian neighbor’s, my intentions & my general conduct should not. If we are both seeking God’s Truth (the only Truth we stand on), and working to align ourselves with God’s Word, then we will be falling in line with His good & perfect will. (Romans 12:2 says: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect). We are called to be different—set apart.
Children naturally look up to their teachers. You hear it all the time, famous athletes, movie stars, etc., credit their childhood teachers for making such a marked influence on their lives. What kind of influence are you, on these young, impressionable minds? Do you know who you are, and where you are going? The reality of leadership is that students end up emulating those they admire, their heroes. If our lives are not consistently what they are called to be, we risk leading our students AWAY from Jesus, rather than TOWARD Him. And that is not something we can take lightly. Jesus Himself called it THE most important thing in life: the Great Commission! Your role, as a teacher, is NOT just to pass on information/facts, but to help our EOA students be formed as disciples of Jesus Christ. Although I most certainly would like each one of you to be knowledgeable about & comfortable with discussing salvation with your students, I am more concerned that they witness your life, & want what you have—peace, true inner Joy, kindness, love, & the awesome fruits that only the Holy Spirit can truly bring.
Does this mean we are expected to be PERFECT? No, gosh, no. I fail Him every day, in so many ways! Praise Jesus for His constant grace & forgiveness, or none of us would have any hope! What I want you to think about is HOW you live your life…
So I am leaving you with the following questions. Please read them, pray about them, and answer them honestly. If ANY of them is confusing, call me. If you are unable to honestly answer a resounding YES to even ONE of them, please let me know that, & we will talk. It’s okay! This will remain confidential, & nothing will be held against you. We simply must make our mission a united one.
Please reply YES or NO, and add any comments, if you feel it’s necessary.
