Lawyer’s Club’s Partnership in Education with Central Elementary School channels the energies of attorneys, judges, paralegals, law students, elected officials and other professional volunteers into outreach to some of San Diego’s most economically disadvantaged children, transforming their view of the legal system, providing positive role models and critically needed school supplies, and inspiring them to read, stay in school and dream big. Central is a pre-k through 5th grade public school where every child is on free lunch/free breakfast. There is an incredible diversity of cultures and many languages spoken at Central, where the kids face fierce societal and economic challenges. There are two main ways you can help: (1) by participating in our twice yearly read-ins; and/or (2) by contributing to our school supply donation drive to help enable us to get basic school supplies to the kids.
Read-ins: In partnership with San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association (SDLRLA), read-in volunteers are placed in reading teams and matched with a specific classroom. Readers contact their teachers in advance and bring requested classroom book donations, goodies for the kids, and school supplies. Readers spend time reading to their class and leading discussions about topics such as career and college, often sharing about their own paths, their experiences in the legal profession, and how reading and school were steps to get there.
Donation Drive: In partnership with SDLRLA, we are organizing a school supply donation drive Central Elementary created a list of critically needed school supplies, and we took that list to create an "Wish List" on Amazon.com. The list includes basic needs of the school, such as paper, pencils, erasers, crayons, tissues, etc. All you need to do is to fulfill their need by clicking
http://a.co/8cCWCTm and the supplies will arrive at Central Elementary.
Feel free to share this form with your friends, family and colleagues!!!! It goes without saying that we are VERY THANKFUL that you are taking the time to help us help Central Elementary.
