As a school that is seeking and disseminating ways to improve urban public education, particularly in California, UCLA Lab School must have an ethnically and economically diverse population of children. Admission procedures are designed to ensure ethnic and economic diversity as well as a gender balance in the school population.

The school also offers a dual language program based on the belief that speaking a second language is a highly valuable skill in our global society, UCLA Lab School’s dual language program develops proficiency in both English and Spanish.  Our classrooms are balanced with native-English and native-Spanish speaking students; our teachers are highly experienced bilingual educators with master degrees in education as well as a Bilingual, Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) certification.  Children learn through hands-on learning experiences that promote critical thinking, conceptual understanding and language development.
