Opinions on food self-sufficiency in Hong Kong
What do you think about “Agri-Parks” and hydroponics?
Should local agriculture be all about high technology?
Can we safeguard our food safety by less than 1% sample testing by the CFS (Centre for Food Safety)?

Sustainable local agriculture goes beyond a buy-and-sell relationship
with farmers, as it is inseparable from land use and community
development. We are a group of Hongkongers who care about the
sustainable development of local agriculture, and who are concerned
about our food safety as well as our food self-sufficiency. We wish to
hear from other locals on their opinions to the consultation document
(New Agricultural Policy: Sustainable Agricultural Development in Hong
Kong) released by the HKSAR government in December 2014, by means of
the questionnaire in the link below, to better understand what
Hongkongers actually think of the topic before the end of the consultation period, which closes in March 2015.

Please submit your responses by 26th March 2015, so we can use your
responses as part of our submission to the consultation. The
questionnaire will take about 12 minutes to complete.

If “yes”, please state what percentage is produced locally according to your knowledge.
6)  Do you think Hong Kong should strive for a certain minimum level of vegetable self-sufficiency? *
(Extra info: Taking into account Hong Kong's vegetable production and consumption levels, the rehabilitation of all arable abandoned agricultural land and the reduction of farm-level food waste to a minimum could raise Hong Kong's vegetable self-sufficiency rate to between 27 and 40%.)
6a
If "Yes", please specify the vegetable self-sufficiency rate in percentage.

If you would like to share your opinion on the consultation, please elaborate here (optional):
12) Do you agree with the government’s plans of setting up an "Agri-Park"? *
12a) There are still 4,523 hectares of unused farmland in Hong Kong. The government intends to set aside around 70-80 hectares for this "Agri-Park". Do you consider this to be adequate? *
13) There are 6,136 hectares of usable land for development (this includes idle government land, brownfield sites, military land,etc.). Do you think it is worth the use of public money to buy back all existing unused agricultural land (4,523 hectares) and use it for the purpose of agriculture? *
(Note: The rehabilitation of all agricultural land could provide Hong Kong with a vegetable self-sufficiency rate of between 27 and 40%. The cost of buying back 4,523 hectares agricultural land would be equivalent to the cost of building the third runway.)
14) Do you think that a portion of existing public green spaces  (e.g. existing plants by the side of the road, under flyovers, etc.) be turned over for urban farming projects? *
