Hello, thank you for your interest in being a host for the SPACES NASA shadow day!
What is Shadow Day?
Shadow Day give Native American high school students from around San Diego county the oppurtunity to physcially picture themselves on a college campus. Students will be paired with a host/mentor and "shadow" them around the UCSD campus. Shadow Day students will be immersed in the college atmosphere for the day alongside their host. Before the shadowing period, the students will be given a tour of campus. Through Shadow Day, we hope our students will gain a greater sense of agency and empowerment that will ultimately motivate them to achieve higher education after high school.
A host will act as a mentor to the student for the day of. Each host will receive 2 students. They will serve as a resource and help the students when needed. The roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, touring the students around the UCSD campus and exposing them to the diverse set of resources that a university can offer and taking them to visit any classes/meetings you are going to (e.g. visiting lecture halls, campus resources centers, dining halls, department buildings, stuart art collection pieces, recreational centers, etc)
Hosts are required to attend a mandatory training/info session prior to Shadow Day and required to complete praesidium training. (Date/time/place tba)
