The New Trump Card: Domestic Nuclear Weapons Policy
The Caltech Y Social Activism Speaker Series is hosting its 2nd event in its Nuclear Winter Series with an evening lecture with Dr. David Wright.

Donald Trump’s statements on nuclear weapons have raised questions about what his approach will be to US nuclear policy, arms control, and related issues. This talk will discuss what the key nuclear issues will be in the next few years, including the planned rebuilding of US nuclear forces, the development of new weapon systems, and the expansion of the US missile defense system.  It will also look at steps that could help reduce the risk of nuclear use, including taking land-based missiles off hair-trigger alert, and ending or restricting the first use of nuclear weapons.

David Wright received his PhD in physics from Cornell University in 1983 and worked as a research physicist from 1983 to 1988. Since then he has worked on arms control and international security issues, applying his background to understand technical aspects of nuclear weapons policy, missile defense systems, missile proliferation, and space weapons. Since 1990, he has been a primary organizer of the International Summer Symposiums on Science and World Affairs, which foster cooperation among scientists around the world working on arms control and security issues. In 2001, he was a co-recipient of the American Physical Society’s Joseph A. Burton Forum Award for his arms control research and his work with international scientists.
