This short survey looks at how students think about writing as a process. Your responses are anonymous and confidential, and the data will only be shared in aggregate form without any identifying information. It should take five to ten minutes to complete. There are minimal risks for participation in this survey. If you feel uncomfortable answering a particular question, you may choose to not answer that question, or discontinue the survey altogether. If you are enrolled in one of my classes, this will in no way affect your grade or standing. You will receive no compensation or points for participating in this survey. Which best describes your typical process for revising a paper after you have written it?

I usually just tidy things up--editing sentences, checking spelling, looking for grammatical errors and other proofreading activities.

I mostly look for ways to reorganize existing information in the draft to make it more effective.

I generally just add information where it's needed

I do more research

I often completely change the focus or even the main idea in the revision, rewriting sections, adding or removing information, and rearranging the order of things.

I rarely do any revision or re-writing at all.

How nit-picky are you about where, when, and how your write? For example, do you need a certain pen, a certain computer in the library, your cat in your lap, your headphones on, or a bottle of Mountain Dew?

I am very nit-picky: everything has to be just right before I can write

Completely confident: I am as good of a writer as any other student

Somewhat confident: I'm a pretty good writer, but I could still improve

Not very confident: I struggle with writing and I worry it will hurt my grades
