Chooda Board and Committee Member Application
Please read through the key responsibilities outlined below before completing this application. We are excited you are interested in stewarding the mission of Chooda and our flagship program, Bike Zambia!

COMMITTEE MEMBER DESCRIPTION
Chooda Committees include Finance, Fundraising, Policy, Board Development, and Bike Zambia planning team. Committee members do not need to be, but may be, board members. Board members should each serve on at least one committee. If you have expertise in any of these areas but do not want the full commitment as a board member, a committee position could be a great way for you to volunteer your efforts to help Chooda make important strides as an organization! Committee meetings are determined by the committee chair and by the workload. Thank you for considering!

BOARD DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A member of the Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring that Chooda fulfills its mission by planning for the future, monitoring operations, and evaluating the organization’s performance. A board member must fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities of a board of directors, making business decisions that protect the organization and developing policies that support mission-centered and financial success.

Board Members agree to a 3-year term, are eligible for re-election after 3 years, and are expected to contribute 10-12 hours per month.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

ADVANCE THE MISSION OF CHOODA
• Be informed about Chooda's services, policies, programs, and mission "to create transformative experiences for its participants while providing much needed resources abroad."
• Regularly inform others about the organization and enhance the Chooda's public image.
• Keep up-to-date on developments in the field of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Women's Economic Empowerment in Africa.
• Select the Chooda Executive Director or Key Staff Person.

ENSURE EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONAL PLANNING
• Determine and monitor Chooda’s programs and services.
• Participate in the development of a strategic plan to accomplish the mission, oversee its implementation and evaluate its success.

ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN ALL BOARD ACTIVITIES
• Attend in person or by phone bi-monthly or quarterly board meetings.
• Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings.
• Monitor and respond to email correspondence.
• Serve on a committee and periodically take on special assignments.
• Suggest nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and to Chooda.
• Assess the board’s performance annually.

ENSURE ADEQUATE FINANCIAL RESOURCES
• Have organizational financial sustainability at the forefront of decisions.
• Manage Chooda's resources effectively and sustainably.
• Carry out the fiduciary responsibilities of the board, such as reviewing the organization’s annual financial statements, selecting an auditor and receiving the auditor’s report.
