Denver Children's Home - Book Project
Always Choose Adventures-Colorado®​ is partnering with Denver Children's Home. DCH helps children under the age of 18 that have been severely abused, neglected or traumatized.
Holiday Giving Project:
Please purchase a brand new action figure / stuffed animal suited for any child under the age of 18. Over the next few months please take this item on your adventures, travels and hikes with you.
Take pictures and create an adventurous story line. ACA will be partnering with Denver Bookbinding Company​ to create books for the kids and they'll get the item that has been on all these cool excursions. (Please keep the item in a plastic bag while photographs are not being taken, we want to try to keep this item as new and clean as possible. Please no dangerous or violent action figures)

Instructions:
- Brand new stuffed animal or action figure
- Name of story
- Storyline suitable for children
- Photos need to be placed in a word doc in order with the wording below it
- Photos and text need to be in a print ready PDF file
- Photos need to all be facing the same direction
- Page size is 8.5 x 11
- 20 pages [Double-sided] [40 pictures total]

Denver Children’s Home (DCH) is sometimes asked to provide reports to government and funding groups regarding the make-up of
our volunteer force. The following information is used for statistical purposes only. Submission of this information is voluntary.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Child Abuse Policy
DCH fully supports The Colorado Children’s Code. Staff and volunteers will report any and all suspected cases of
child abuse and/or neglect. Child abuse is defined under Colorado Public Law as an act or omission which threatens
the health or welfare of a child.
Appropriate Boundaries/Behavior Management Policy
 Dress and Appearance – Volunteers will dress appropriately when around any DCH client (no revealing clothing,
no inappropriate language, no gang colors)
 Interactions: Interactions with clients should be minimal, however, if a client approaches a volunteer, the
following are guidelines on appropriate interactions:
 Physical Contact
 Volunteers must maintain appropriate personal space with clients.
 No physical contact is allowed between volunteers and clients.

 Relational Boundaries
 Volunteers may not give clients personal information about themselves or have any relationship
outside of DCH.
 Volunteers should not ask for personal information from clients (family history, where they are
from, etc.).
 DCH client’s space must be respected at all times.
 No exchanging of gifts or trading items with clients.
 Volunteers may not initiate contact with clients outside of DCH.
 Promotion – Volunteers are not to promote any political or religious ideology or opinions
 Volunteers cannot express their religion or political views in front of our clients

Restraint Policy
All volunteers at Denver Children’s Home will be responsible for their own reactions, feelings, tempers, controls and
behaviors to any physical restraints that are performed on a client.
Should a client lose complete control and need to be physically restrained, it is done to prevent injury to him/herself
or others, or to prevent serious property damage. Only as much force as necessary is used to provide containment,
control and protection.

Drug and Alcohol Policy
DCH prohibits the use, sale, dispensation, manufacture, distribution or possession of alcohol, drugs, controlled
substances or drug paraphernalia on any company premises or worksites.
No volunteer shall report to DCH with alcohol or with any detectable amount of prohibited drugs in the volunteer’s
system.

Non-Disclosure Acknowledgment
All information concerning DCH’s clients is highly confidential, including information about the identity of children at
DCH. It is prohibited to share any names, stories, photos or personal information of any DCH client.
I acknowledge that I have made a commitment as a volunteer for Denver Children’s Home to safeguard the privacy
of all clients/patients, and to protect the confidentiality of their health information. In the course of my relationship
with DCH, I may come into possession of confidential patient information, even though it may not be directly
involved in providing client/patient services.
I understand that such information must be maintained in the strictest confidence. As a condition of my assignment,
I hereby agree that, unless directed by the DCH Executive Director, I will not at any time during or after my
assignment with DCH disclose any patient/client information to any person whatsoever.
I also understand that Denver Children’s Home reminds its volunteers of their confidentiality obligations on a
periodic basis to help ensure compliance, due to the significance of this issue.

By signing this form you acknowledge that you have read and agree to follow all policies and procedures. I understand
and will adhere to appropriate behavior relating to issues of confidentiality, professionalism, non-discrimination and
appropriate boundaries in dealing with clients, staff and other volunteers. I will adhere to safe work practices and
procedures.
