Kurt Cobain was the lead singer of Nirvana, the group credited with starting the Grunge era in Seattle. His home was built in 1902 and is located one block up from Lake Washington in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood. Although the home is worth several million dollars, it doesn't reflect the glamorous lifestyle one would associate with a rock star of Kurt's stature. Instead, it reflects the more modest lifestyle that Cobain lived. Kurt's home is where he spent the last minutes of his life. In late March of 1994 he fled from a Los Angeles rehab center and flew home. He hung out around Seattle for a few days and was last seen on April 3rd. On April 8th an electrician was sent out to install security lighting. When he looked into a window of the greenhouse, a room above the garage, he discovered Kurt's lifeless body. It was speculated that Cobain died on April 5th from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was only 27 years old. Although the garage still stands the greenhouse was torn down shortly after his death. In 1997 Courtney purchased the house for Cobain's family. In December of 2003 Courtney stopped making the payments and the house was auctioned off.The property is now surrounded by a fence and security cameras have been installed. The new owners are unknown to the public but don't seem to mind people stopping by as there have not been any known complaints. Next to the house, in Viretta Park, fans have turned two benches into a message board of writing expressing their love for Cobain. There is also a fence bordering the property that fans like to write on too.
Wow I can't believe Courtney Love allowed his home to be auctioned off. Just another evil Courtney act. She cares about no one but herself. Not even his family or Francis. This is just another heartbreaking look inside the life of Kurt. RIP my beautiful angel.
The owners should have known that people are gonna want to snap pics and stuff so honestly I would recommend having the house as a open house.
The house is on private property and the homeowners aren't fans of having people wandering around on their lawn, so stick to the road if you're going to visit. There's usually a small group of curious people snapping pictures from the sidewalk so you can't miss it.

Okay so after many years of wanting to see this iconic house, and bench on Lake Washington, in Seattle, today was the day I finally did! Let me just start by saying, it is pretty hidden behind a fence, and trees... the bench is awesome and didn’t disappoint! That being said if you have small children or teenagers with you I would steer clear of the round about area with a small beach at the lake. It is a nude beach, and we even went as far as getting out of the car and walking toward it, with our lunch in hand only to notice a shit ton of naked middle aged men 🤣 and a few women... like is said if you’re into that sort of thing, and don’t have teenage boys, and a toddler with you, I’m sure it’s a “more the merrier” type of situation!
I wish it was turned into a museum just like Graceland in Memphis. It could make a ton of money each year just like Graceland.
For the people slandering Courtney, or those who are genuinely curious, yes she owned the home previously. Courtney and Kurt bought the home together. She later sold it. Maybe she was buying it back. 🤷🏻♀️

The house was sort of hard to find, but much harder to see! Our gps took us to the right area, but the house is so overgrown with greenery, it's like a fortress just to snap a photo! You must be determined to get a good photo opp. From Viretta Park, I believe it's only a mile around the corner. We came in on Washington Blvd heading North with Lake Washington to our right. Then we looped around onto 39th Ave. East. There is a massive wooden gate/fence, so you really can't see much. Plus, all of the greenery, you are only peeking through to get a glimpse of the brownish/red home and windows. There are steps behind one of the benches in Viretta Park, and we are not sure if those lead to a better view of Kurt's home. There were lots of messages written, pics drawn, notes left, and flowers left at the benches in Viretta Park. Our favorite part was the drive around Mt. Washington to get there. It's in a very upscale neighborhood, not a place I expected to find Kurt's house as he seemed very down to earth.
