So, I was messing around, looking at the Inkipedia just for the sake of it, reading about the weapons and stuff. Looking at the article about the N-ZAP ’89 (because that’s my main, I really love it!), I realized something.
It’s obvious for anyone whose childhood included the NES that this weapon is based on the NES Zapper. However, if you look closely at the promo image, you’ll see that it’s not “based” on it, but it’s literally the NES Zapper. It has the Nintendo logo printed on it in orange, and even some embossed text on the side that’s also present on the original.
It’s very likely that in-universe, the squid cilivization found these controllers, thought they were cool, and repurposed them to shoot ink instead of read an infrared signal.
But, this got me thinking… Now that we have a real-life reference, with a known size (if this Amazon page has correct information, then the weapon is 11.4″ long), we can use this to calculate the size of other objects, and more importantly, the Inklings.
So, i found this image as a reference:
(yes, it’s the ’85 edition, but the only difference is the color)
We can use some measuring tools to approximate this girl’s height.
Yes, it’s not perfect, she’s not standing straight, and there’s the cap, but this is just an approximation.
Well, we now have a height of 1.8 Zappers, which would be roughly 20.5″, or 1′8.5″, or just a little more than 50 cm! Wow, these creatures are tiny!
To be fair, they’re only kids, and we know the Squid Sisters are taller than them (I don’t have a source for the measurement, though), but this still points at a species that are smaller than humans. This also may explain Judd’s size, who people say is too big for a normal cat.
Now… well I don’t know what to do with this information. I was also thinking about using this to measure other weapons and then create 1:1 real-life replicas, but 1) I’m not the cosplayer type, and 2) maybe the Dynamo Roller isn’t as ridiculously huge as we think.
Makes sense really as they are evolved squids you cant expect them to be huge lol. Nice work crunch the numbers btw
