Why is everyone so upset at this? Jesus. I personally think Apple should offer their phones in more colors than just black and white. I'd love to do the blue aluminum the moment my warranty is up.
What happens to the phones that people return? It's easier to just have 2 colors than have all colors of the rainbow and have manufacture it all. If you know what I'm saying
Not really upset, just astounded that someone would consider spending what they paid out of pocket for the phone on getting the color changed.
I get what you're saying but if other companies can offer a color selection, so can Apple. Nokia and Samsung both offer great color choices on their flagships (referring to the Galaxy SIII for Samsung, not the Note III.) Of course it's easier to stick with two colors but as a consumer it's silly to criticize the chance of having more color choices.
I'd consider it because I love how the blue iPod Touch looks and this would be my only way of getting the same type of finish. Also, not everyone only paid $200 for the phone. I paid $600 for mine. People also spend $15 dollars for plastic screen protectors and ridiculous amounts for pricey Otterboxes and Lifeproof cases, and though I know they have a benefit beyond a custom colored phone, I just don't think money is the real issue here. There are people here calling it hideous and I just can't grasp that.. No one calls the iPod Touch hideous and this is just reminiscent of that color scheme but with the superior design of the iPhone 5.
Color is a very superficial thing. More money for apple to make, so less profit margin lol. Third party options are available to get the phone colored. They have to make even quantities of all colors so if one color isn't popular then all of the profits on that are severely diminished
Without resale value what do you do when your newly coated phones screen dies the next day? Warranty, void. $229 for replacement and the cost of coating down the drain. Is having that color really worth it? Buy a case or sticker.

FYI this does not void your warranty in the US, even though the manufacturer FAQ says it does. If your camera or screen breaks or any functional component malfunctions Apple still has to replace it by law even if you modified. The only exceptions are of the modifications make it is prohibitively expensive to warranty or they can prove the modification is responsible for the damage.
Unfortunately you will just get a normal replacement under warranty and will have to pay for the anodizing again so it will probably be cheaper to repair the phone out of pocket.
The law was designed because a few decades ago manufacturers would force consumers to buy "authorized" accessories at hugely marked up prices or their warranties would be void.

I'm another that wishes iPhones came in more colors. I switched out my back glass on my 4S to a pink one for $70 but that would be the most I would pay to color change.
Well, still $250 is a lot for a color change and Apple will look at you like "wtf is this". For $250 you can just get some stickers, a few accessories, and a couple of expensive apps and be better off, it won't take 2 weeks for you to get your phone back and if you don't like it you can take it off.
No offense but if you spend 250 for that you need to have your head checked. First off that looks hideous. Like taking a nice black or silver car in and getting some cheap purple or lime green paint job. YUCK!

If you look at my original post you'll see that I mentioned colorware (
and I would imagine these guys) replace Apple's warranty with their own. Beyond that I'm not sure how a a warranty replacement effects resale value. People mod stuff all the time without any regard to voiding the warranty, if it's not a problem for you, do it.

I actually kind of like the dark brown on white version. The rest of them are quite a bit loud though. On my white iPhone 4S I had a brown leather back Zagg cover that I thought looked really good.
I think a sticker is more practical though- it's cheaper and you can change the color if you want down the road. Plus if you sell it later, you're not limited by the person liking the color.

Apple's product lines follow a black/white/gray color scheme. Gone are the days when Apple releases products in funky colors - this should surprise no one. If you're really serious about personalizing and customizing your phone, you should do so - but aesthetically speaking, I'd prefer Apple continue to only release their products (phones in particular) in black and white only.
