Wong Kar-wai‘s Jet Tone Films has appointed former Fortissimo Films executive Winnie Lau to a newly created role as head of international co-production and distribution.
Lau will lead Jet Tone’s strategic partnerships and co-productions with overseas media companies, and will be based out of its Beijing and Hong Kong offices, Jet Tone said in a statement.
Lau was formerly executive vp acquisitions and sales at the Hong Kong- and Amsterdam-based Fortissimo, where she negotiated deals with a variety of international studios, independent distributors and directors, including Martin Scorsese and John Cameron Mitchell.

“Jet Tone is delighted to welcome such a seasoned expert to our international team,” said Jacky Pang, CEO of Jet Tone Films. “Winnie’s proven experience and success in the global markets will allow our company to explore exciting new territory.”
Fortissimo and Jet Tone have had a long and close working relationship.
Born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Lau is fluent in Dutch, English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin and German.
“I look forward to working closely with Jacky and Wong Kar-wai to attract new overseas interest in the Chinese market and to produce Chinese films that will speak to a worldwide audience,” said Lau.

Jet Tone, working with Annapurna Pictures, is currently completing postproduction on the filmmaker’s The Grandmaster 3D, a 3D remastering of his 2013 biopic. The picture will be released theatrically in China by Bona Films in October.
Jet Tone’s latest production, in collaboration with Taiwan’s Double Edge Entertainment, Partners in Crime, recently held its North American premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled to screen at the upcoming Busan International Film Festival. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film in Taiwan later this month.
