NEW DELHI: Despite a
Supreme Court ban on sale of acid, it continues to be sold openly by retailers across Delhi, as per an investigation conducted by the Delhi Commission for Women.
The commission's chairperson
Swati Maliwal said that DCW conducted an investigation across 11 districts of Delhi on November 1 and 2, under which six of its members posed as customers in areas like Seelampur, Khari Baoli, Daryaganj, Jangpura Extn and Rajouri Garden.
Of the 30 shops scanned, 23 were ready to sell acid, including one seller in
Khari Baoli who tried to convince the DCW member to buy a whole crate of a “very strong acid“.She said only one seller asked for identification of the buyer.
Maliwal said that DCW plans to send its report to the
LG asking him to immediately ban retail sale of acid.
