Henry Cavill is jumping from one piece of beloved genre entertainment to the next, trading in Superman’s cape to play the Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s live-action series.
Netflix didn’t provide many details about Cavill’s interpretation of the character, which will appear in an eight-episode, live-action series, other than the following description:
Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
Geralt of Rivia has a long history of appearing in various books and comics, but he’s perhaps best known through CD Projekt Red’s Witcher series. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was considered one of 2015’s best games.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s The Defenders, Umbrella Academy) will oversee The Witcher for Netflix. There’s no premiere date for the series at this time.
