Bosnia gotta go fast
I wanna see some drifting lorries there.
In general the Balkans seem to love doing some semi-trailer multitrack drifiting
funny enough you rarely can reach that speed considering Bosnian roads are very curvy
shouldn't the UK be 96 km/h?
source: I play ETS2
It's a funny one. The UK permits trucks to travel at 96 km/h by speed limit, but trucks in the UK are subject to EU harmonised norms which limit the vehicle speed to 90 km/h. Therefore it's probably fine to say practically, it's a 90 km/h limit.
bring on the brexit for that sweet sweet 6km/h
I drive in the UK daily. They’re all going right at 60mph, except one who’s passing at 61. I know because I’m trying to fucking go 70.
You are right, although I would probably put it under 100 then, but indeed a mistake
Is there a subreddit for ETS2?
Is there a subreddit for ETS2?
Why 96, such an uneven number
It's more or less 60 miles per hour, the UK still mostly uses miles
Well technically it is an even number.
An unodd number
The UK uses miles. 96 is just the converted value in km
My first ever map, not sure if I was allowed to use the [OC] tag as the map itself is a blank Europe map. Most of the countries where the speed is above 90 don't have a max speed for trucks and are allowed to go the same speed as regular vehicles.
Data comes from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_by_country
I’m from Romania and I’ve never seen a truck going 110kmph. They all have limiters set to 90, as I think there’s an EU regulation on that matter. I’ve reread the traffic code and it does mention 110, but whenever they have a trailer (i.e. the classic semi) they need to be 10 below the posted speed limit). The more you know.
I have to admit the eastern europeans weren't completely clear and I probably would have to put a 1000 asterixen everywhere
asterixen
Nice map. The gradient of speeds towards Romania is interesting
Probably correlates directly with the number of highways they have.
Nice map. Only suggestions is to change either 80 or 130 to a more distinct color. Us colorblind folk have feelings, too!
Thanks for the feedback! I really tried to think about you guys
Don't lie. No one ever thinks about us. JK thanks.
Sure do, best friend has it! I always find it fascinating how he can paint and use the 'right' colours, while im just drawing stick figures
OC tag is ok if you did the data collection and/or colouring (but always check if the blank maps are subject to copyrights). Wikipedia maps are always fine. Personally I would have chosen a less sketchy map (with the micronations & small island nations shown as dots, in order to improve their visibility), but it's still a much appreciated map.
Damn, Macedonia must be wild
It's not correct, it's 80 km/h on public roads, and 100 on highways.
In Sweden, the max speed for trucks is 90km/h on motorways, 80km/h on normal roads
What I found is that that is only the case when there is no trailer attached
Yes, that seems to be correct
Holy shit, trucks can't go more than 80 kmh in most of Europe? That's not even 50 mph!
I've been nearly run off the road by double trailers doing 80 mph in the USA...
I actually felt it created a dangerous situation, when I was driving in France this spring. The trucks are essentially slow-moving barricades that (depending on your car's speed) you approach at 20 or 25 k.p.h. If someone's in the lane next to you, that results in a lot of breaking / accelerating / braking / accelerating. (Which is also, BTW, environmentally inefficient.)
The speed limit is 85 mph in some places in the US.
The US is also a lot bigger and would take a lot longer to get anywhere if you could only go 50mph...
Bigger than what? Europe is roughly the size of the lower 48 states.
Ok you're right, but US cities are more spread out, there's literally hundreds of miles you can go in the western states without seeing a single house. I've only been to Europe once and it was during a layover flight, but Im pretty sure European cities are a bit more tightly packed compared to the western states no?
Plus places like the Great Plains are wide open and the roads are straight and little traffic.
Oh yeah, the southern parts of Europe have pretty high population density, but northern Scandinavia is pretty sparsely populated.

Sure they are, but the distance from say Madrid to Copenhagen is still pretty damn long.
The US and Europe are pretty similar in size.
Russia has the same problem however, and they have a lower speed limit
A suggestion for next time: use a color scale/gradient for the speed limits, for example blue to red, with white/black for no data. This makes it more intuitive for the reader to understand the speedlimits. The colors here are kinda confusing, and for each speed limit the reader has to go back and look at the legend.
I tried to harmonise myself with the colourblind lovers of porn, mapporn that is
Your "most important" features (the red/green combo in East Europe) has the worst setup for the most common form of colour deficiency: red/green. The large, similar colored (blue in your case) swats of colour in the middle could be whatever colour, as they don't have to show a difference. This is a really neat site to check when you're being a considerate human being! :D
You're right that for a linear scale like this a gradient is likely best. The motivation behind the different speed limits might not be geographically motivated though, in which case a gradient would actually make it harder to understand the map, because of the similarities in colours. But in the end perhaps the speed limits are geographically correlated. I guess I'm trying to say that a gradient scale doesn't have to always be best. I actually found the back and forth between the legend a good way of interpreting the map.
I'm imagining driving across the Greek-Macedonian border and just flooring it once into Macedonia.
The what?! /s
130? Damn, that seems fast for a truck.
Around where I live in texas thats really not that uncommon, if a truck was going 100km/h it would be considered slow
I think the Irish limit is 90
what color is that 120 and what country follows that? I thin kit falls right down into my colorblindness and i'm having a hard time
Sorry about that! Its algeria and bulgaria and cyprus
It's brown. Libya and Bulgaria follow it.
Trying to learn how the colorblindness goes. Is it hard to tell Romania (red/110) from Bulgaria (brown/120)?
actually quite hard to tell from the green 120 and 90
ah, good to know
Interesting. Semi-trailers are limited to 100 km/h here in Australia (and are required to have a speed limited fitted) so I'm surprised to see it's lower in most of Europe, given how good most European roads are.
Other cars > kangaroos
I'm not sure, but I think I see 90kmh limit on polish truck trailers...
Probably they don't need it in Poland, like [Convoi exceptionnel] which is required in france but seen on many exceptional convoys throughout Europe
Why does Kosovo have to go so fast? They aren't that big a country
They don't have a separate speed limit for trucks and 130 is their max speed limit.
That's quite interesting actually. Thanks
Why are some allowed to be 120 or 130? Isn't that dangerous? Most are small. Is that a factor?
Factor is that most of those dont have a special speedlimit for trucks so I put in the general speedlmit
Thanks for the reply!
That's what I'm here for
Can't wait till Bosnia is released in ETS2
In Kosovo they are escaping the kebab removal units so it gotta be higher speed than Serbia. And because Serbia considers Kosovo part of Serbia, Serbian trucks can’t catch the Kosovoan trucks xD
Nice map. Though, if I could make a suggestion, the key should stipulate kph, or at least show the mph equivalent.
You are right, although I do believe it is implicit
I agree that it's implicit. Europe is all km/h apart from the UK and even that will finally be changing in the next 10 years.
Never mate, it would cost way too much just to change all the road signs and anyway too many people would object.
Haha! It's not going to happen. It's not an issue. Nobody ever complains that they can't easily divide by 1000.
Yeah, that would help. I assumed it was km/h, but wasn't 100% sure.
Where do you live that trucks can go 130 mph? The scale of the map (starting at 80 and going up to 130) make km/h the only sensible speed. I don't think you could find a tractor trailer that could do 130 mph even without a trailer (excluding rocket trucks).
Awful color scheme.
Do those Balkan countries actually have any roads where it's safe to drive a lorry up to 130 km/h?
Edit: I'm sorry if people think this is an insulting question. I've lived in Ukraine and I wouldn't trust a lorry at those speeds on most of their roads. I didn't know if a place like Kosovo was any better. Also the fact that the top speed limit drops to 80 km/h in neighboring countries like Croatia, Albania, and Greece made me think that the governments in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Macedonia are probably focused on more pressing issues than addressing road safety.
No, every road is made out of dirt. It's fine because we ride cows to work
Dude, you up for a ride down to the bar? Rakija's on me.
Omg you have a cow AND a job? You lucky bastard!
Balkan and safety words dont get along too well together.
Go to google maps and zoom out, you’ll see the highways.
In Kosovo you can drive 130 km/h on the highway
In terms of fatalities, do differing max speeds for trucks make much of a difference? I would've thought a truck going 80 will do the same damage to a building/person/car as would a truck going at 120 miles an hour.
The faster you go the longer it takes to stop the vehicle, and this goes especially for heavy vehicles, so I do believe there is a difference
No, acceleration does increase the damage, but also higher velocities increase the deceleration time, so it is more dangerous.
No units. C+.
Whats the unit scale for the grades?
Units are implied by the signs
Mph?
Why is Truckistan split in 3 pieces?
Because eggs are blue
Germany ???? is this a parrallel universe ?
This is for regular cars, not trucks
