BRUNSWICK (WGME) -- Town officials have set a date for a public forum on rabies after multiple attacks by rabid animals in Brunswick in the past two months.

The forum will take place 5 p.m. Thursday Aug. 9 in the council chambers within Brunswick Town Hall.

After six incidents involving rabid animals over a six-week period, Brunswick Animal Control Officer Heidi Nelson announced a panel of experts would come together to talk rabies with the public to address their concerns and answer their questions.

Dr. Mandie Weir of the Coastal Humane Society is continuing to stress a safety first approach to animals in the area.

"Don't try and approach wildlife itself, the skunk of the fox or whatever the animal, and then contact the authorities if they seeing things," Weir said.

The Coastal Humane Society is about 50 yards away from the location of a rabid skunk incident.
