Description

Are you eager to start using math workshop in your classroom but unsure of how to start? I was there and completely understand. In trying different ways to structure math workshop, I finally settled on this format. This packet allows you to learn from my mistakes and successes as you structure math workshop after this format.

What makes this format unique:

-Class is divided into 5 groups making for smaller group sizes

-You only plan 6 rotations/stations a week

-Math workshop is only done 3 days a week

-Each group completes two rotations a day

-Two days a week are workshop free which allows you to teach longer lessons and prepare your class for workshop days

-Allows for spiraling of your curriculum

-Allows for differentiated learning for your students

Included in this packet:

-FAQ about math workshop

-Benefits of this format

-Descriptions of the three components of workshop – mini lesson, independent practice & share

-Rotation and weekly schedule

-Advice on getting started, grouping your students and setting up workshop

-Planning printables including:

-weekly planning sheet

-unit planning

-topic planning

-record keeping sheets by group & by student

-Organization printables in 5 different versions (3 color & 2 B/W) including:

-goal of the week

-rotation schedule

-list of stations

-math partners

-math groups

-Samples of how to use the printables & pictures of math workshop anchor charts

-Checklists for planning & organizing

All organization and planning printables are editable so you can type your plans in the text boxes with a font and size of your choice or you can print them and write on them. You CAN NOT change the amount of groups or boxes on the sheets. This just gives you two options - print and write on the sheets or type on the sheets as they are.

Now updated to included an editable Powerpoint if you'd prefer to only use certain planning sheets and duplicate those for each week.

This document describes how to set up and organize your classroom for math workshop. This packet DOES NOT include lesson plans. It is strictly tried and true advice on how to set up and structure math workshop in an elementary classroom.
