A message from Tanzania Vinson, 2017 HBA Dallas-Fort Worth president

On 13 July, HBA Dallas-Fort Worth hosted ConnectCafe, a small, informal and high-energy networking event open to both HBA members as well as non-members at La Madeleine French Bakery & Café in Irving, TX.

Attendees from Amgen, Alcon, AbbVie, Abbott, Quest Diagnostics, Shire, CVS Health, Teva, IBM, Boehringer Ingelheim, Novartis and others mixed and mingled with HBA Dallas-Fort Worth board of directors. Attendees and board of directors shared professional and personal experiences, made new connections, and discussed HBA volunteer and membership opportunities and benefits. HBA DFW ConnectCafe attendees felt the event was a wonderful way to “jump-start” their day. Many thanks to all who attended our ConnectCafe event.

Please Save the date of our next HBA Dallas-Fort Worth event “Summer Networking and Social Media Savvy” event on 22 August from 6:30-8:30 PM – more details to follow. HBA DFW volunteer spots are still available. Please send an email to Jennifer Whipkey, DFW chapter volunteers and membership committee director and let us know how you'd like to get involved

I’m looking forward to seeing you at our upcoming 22 August HBA Dallas-Fort Worth event.

Career Conversations 16 - How I Got Here: Characteristics of Successful Executive Women

Career Conversations 16 - How I Got Here: Characteristics of Successful Executive Women
- 12:00 PM EST

How does a career develop and what are the successful traits that successful women develop throughout their windy path to get them where they are today?

Today, our careers are personal journeys that uniquely reflect our gifts and talents as well as drive, motivation and choices we make. What are the “red threads”, the habits, skills and talents you’ve honed throughout your career, from entry level, through middle management to director-level or CEO? Research points to universal keys like emotional intelligence and self-awareness as keys to success as the as the business world and client demands have evolved or disrupted the healthcare, life science, hospital and device marketplace.

What are the personality traits and “best practices” that consistently catalyze a successful career pathway forward, even when the inevitable happens and the career goes off track or sideways?

Call for 2018 HBA elected global leadership roles - nominations due by 14 August

We are enjoying a tremendous year thanks to the excellent leaders you voted to serve you on the HBA 2017 board of directors, working closely with the many other committed volunteers and exceptional professional staff. It is now time to recruit strategic leaders for next year’s elected leader roles that will be voted on by the membership at the annual business meeting on 26 October.

Please take a few minutes to review the role descriptions and how these opportunities could enhance your personal and professional progress. The benefits of these leadership roles are an expanded network of industry leaders, access to a wide variety of perspectives, enhancement of your leadership skills as you work side by side with the best leaders and a sense of fulfillment that you have directly contributed to the advancement of gender parity.

Nominations via an online form are due by Monday, 14 August 2017. Additional appointed senior leadership roles will be accepting candidates in the coming weeks.

Calling all Twitter users with active, unlocked accounts to help us make an #HBAimpact

Wouldn't it be great if we could reach people within and outside of HBA and rally around common topics?

  • Our 50M Twitter Impressions (How many times a Tweet is viewed on Twitter) goal is aligned with the HBA Global Digital Innovators' strategy of building a sense of community and amplifying HBA's reach for the mission and vision.
  • We want to consistently drive access to HBA content and programming.
  • We want to cultivate engaged members, identify true influencers, create buzz about our HBA brand, and expand our digital presence and connections.
  • We want to stay ahead of the trend and have many pods of conversations between our HBA members, as well as the global market.

The HBA Global Digital Innovators is led by Jessica Pfennig, global chair, communications, PR and digital strategy, and the 50M #HBAimpact Twitter impressions initiative is led by Jandis Price, global chair, digital strategy.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Please include the #HBAimpact (hashtag) when sharing, commenting/replying and creating HBA messages on Twitter regarding awards, events, recent news, announcements, membership, podcasts, webinars, etc. Likes are not included in our 2017 metrics, so if you like a tweet, please also retweet the tweet to ensure your efforts are being captured.
  • The #HBAimpact hashtag can also be added on leadership, coaching, mentoring, gender parity (add #4GenParity hashtag), women in science, etc., blog posts and articles.
  • Twitter hashtags included in our 2017 metrics = #HBAimpact and #4GenParity
  • Please Retweet/Tweet as much as possible. Can you do 3 or more times per week?

We have included some screen shots to help new users:

Image 1: Shows you how to search for the #HBAimpact hashtag. You can see the top uses and the latest uses of the hashtag.
Image 2: Shows the Retweet or Quote Tweet icon, which looks like two arrows in the shape of a box.
Image 3: Shows what you see when you click on the Retweet or Quote Tweet icon. You can add a comment or simply hit the Retweet button on the lower right side.
Image 4: Shows what Tweets look like with comments added.
