Mareep Community Day #4 Guide: April

Posted in

April’s Community Day has been announced and it’s going to be a Mild ‘n Wooly one. The pink, cotton candy looking ball of fluff, shiny Mareep, is expected to make its debut during the event. This will also be the first Community Day to feature a Pokemon from Generation II.

The Exclusive Move for Mareep Electric has been unveiled: Ampharos exclusive move is Dragon Pulse Dragon, a clear nod to Ampharos’s Mega-Evolution which shares a Dragon typing. Set yourself a reminder / alarm to go off about 15 minutes before the end of the event to go through all of your Mareep to find the best options to evolve to obtain Dragon Pulse Dragon.

The CDME (Community Day Exclusive Move) can only be obtained during the event and we are sure you don’t want to miss out.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Per Niantic Support on Twitter, eggs will only hatch four times faster if they are put into an Incubator DURING the three-hour event. Do not put them in before the event starts. Wait till a minute after so you can safely obtain that bonus. Happy walking, trainers!

Event times in various regions

The fourth Community Day will take place on April 15th, 2018 (the third Sunday in April) and it follows the previously established time slots:

  • The Asia-Pacific region: from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. JST (GMT +9)
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. UTC (GMT +0)
  • The Americas and Greenland: from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. PST (GMT -8)

Mareep catch rates and throwing tips

The base catch rate for Mareep is a massive 50%, thus making it the easiest to capture of all Community Day featured Pokemon to date. This sheep roundup event will be an excellent time to get your gold Electric badge, if you don’t already have it. Mareep and Hoot Hoot have similar targets and distances if you’re looking to get some practice on. However, with such a high catch rate we don’t expect anyone to struggle during the event.

Recommended items for advanced players

This month’s event will be featuring 1/4 egg hatching. Egg hatching distance will be reduced to 25% of their original walking distance (10KM egg will hatch at 2.5KM). The 15th will be the first egg hatching Community Day event ever! That being said, a lot of this month’s prep will be similar to prior months. Mareep is boosted during Rainy weather.

  • Poke Balls – Stock up on Poke, Great, and Ultra Balls to limit the amount of time spent spinning Pokestops.
  • Lures – During the event Lures will last 3 hours. Locations with 3 or more stops in close proximity to each other tend to provide the best results during the event.
  • Incense – Increase your chances of finding the cotton candy sheep by maximizing the amount of Pokemon you encounter.
  • Egg Incubators – You will want to have several of these ready to go for when the event starts. As soon as Community Day starts, load up your incubators to maximize the 1/4 egg hatching!
  • Lucky Eggs & Star Pieces – Hatching eggs comes with a hefty amount of XP and Stardust. Keeping these on for the duration of the event will maximize your gains from all the catching and hatching you will be doing.
  • Pokemon Go Plus – If ever there was a featured Pokemon to use this on, it would be Mareep with its 50% catch rate. Additionally, it will assist in tracking your steps more accurately for egg hatching.

Community Day 3 introduced the Community Day Box sale. We speculate that a new Community Day box will be available again this month, featuring Egg Incubators as well as some of the items seen last month.

With the community box now released, here is how the sale stacks up! For those interested in the Super Incubators, whip out those wallets:

April Community Day Box Sale

Items: Quantity Price Total Total Savings:
Super Incubators 3 200 600 58%
Lucky Egg 4 50 200
Lure Module 4 85 340
Ultra Balls 30
Information: Total Bag Space per Box: 41 1140

This is a pretty good sale. Even though Mareep has a 50% catch rate, Ultra Balls are always a nice touch to ensure that a Shiny Mareep does not run on you. Lure Modules will have all of the spots lured up beginning before and lasting after the event. Lucky Eggs will net you all of that sweet experience, so catch (don’t count!) this deal (and hopefully, many shiny sheep) on April Community Day.

With the Super Incubators now on sale, here is a summary of how long egg distances will take with and without Super/Regular Incubators going. Distance for miles is included for anywhere that still uses miles. *insert walking emoji here*

General event tips and tricks

  • Wear a good pair of walking shoes. You will be doing a ton of walking to hatch as many eggs as possible.
  • Get to your favorite local catching spots early.
  • Be patient – there will be errors and bugs at the start of the event, don’t worry.
  • Ensure that you have Lures up the entire duration (Lures will last for three hours.)
  • Catch everything you see!
  • Use Incense to attract even more Pokémon to you while you’re out hunting.
  • Make sure that you keep your Lucky Eggs and Star Pieces active the entire duration to maximize your XP and Stardust gains.
  • Chat with your fellow Trainers and grow your local Pokémon Go community.
  • Promote the new Pokémon Go features and events to Trainers who are just starting their adventure or haven’t been playing for a while.
  • Most importantly, have fun!

The results from Community Day 3 are in, and Instinct made a HUGE impression this time. Does this mark a changing of the guard?
