Boothbay Harbor Board of Selectmen Chairman Wendy Wolf announced Monday that on Monday, July 31, the Boothbay Region Community Resource Council, in conjunction with Spectrum Generations, will have a free Medicare informational session for those 65 and older. The discussion will be held at the LincolnHealth St. Andrews Urgent Care Center in the community room from 9 to 11 a.m.

The town’s total revenue and expenses, year to date, are $85,024.59 and $630,935.14 respectively. The total accounts payable is $53,053.44, and the bank balance is currently $1,662,763.45.

“After the taxes go out, we’ll definitely see a difference between revenue and expenditures,” said finance officer Julia Latter.

On the agenda for old business were a short discussion about the comprehensive plan’s tenth chapter, which is on transportation, and the capital improvement workshop.

The last of the old business was on the subject of marijuana. The board affirmed that the public hearing on marijuana ordinances will be on Monday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.

Though there are no firm dates set for educational sessions on marijuana, selectmen have contacted attorney Ted Kelleher, who spoke in April on the issue, and have set a tentative date of either Tuesday, Aug. 29 or Thursday, Aug. 31. The board is also contemplating a panel discussion in the first week of October.

Wolf wondered if Kelleher should be brought back yet again toward the end of October. “Like we said before, people seem to be much more riveted to the issue the closer it gets to the election,” said Wolf.

The board is striving to set dates for educational sessions with the public, as only six more select board meetings remain until the November election.

Vice Chair Denise Griffin reminded everyone the board meets every second and fourth Monday of the month. “There is always the opportunity for the public to speak or come and ask questions at any particular (select board) meeting,” said Griffin.
