ALBANY, N.Y. >> Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced “Operation NY SECURE,” the first multi-agency effort on Amtrak’s Empire Line to promote better cooperation between law-enforcement agencies and improve the state’s capabilities to respond to emergencies on rail lines.

Agencies participating in SECURE (Securing the Empire Corridor by Unifying Regional Efforts) include the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the New York State Police, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, Amtrak police and several local law-enforcement agencies.

Officers will perform counterterrorism and incident-response exercises at train stations and along the right-of-way in Amtrak’s Empire Corridor and Metro-North’s Hudson Line corridor, including at the Rhinecliff and Poughkeepsie stations.

The effort will include heightened platform patrols, increased security presence on trains and explosives detection sweeps.
