Pixelpiper's diorama and shelf backgrounds (Free High Res Downloads)

I just caught a board member selling three of my images on eBay. Please don't do this. If anyone is caught doing this and I'm not feeling in a good mood, I'll make sure eBay (or whichever site) takes down all your auctions/sales and any other measures required to make sure no additional infringement can take place.


I'm taking commissions and producing backgrounds both digitally and printed on paper as well as card-mounted, for some subjects. Contact me with interest and requests.

These are images I'm using in my dioramas and shelf displays. Feel free to use them, modify them, whatever - BUT, you must not sell them or sell any works derived from them. I've obtained source art from various places on the net and directly from HD movie sources. My contribution is the compositing and manipulation for the most part - you won't find identical images anywhere else. If I post anything 100% original I will note it as such.

All files are JPEG to be printed at 150dpi or 300dpi (as noted). These files are large, multiple megabytes each and the largest is over 15000 pixels wide and prints to 106 inches - 2.7 meters.

Downloading the images:
First, make sure to click-through to Flickr by clicking on the images, and then,

for the Really Old Flickr Browser: right-click the image to show the Flickr-specific pop-up menu and then select the original size option for download.

for the Newer Flickr Browser (controls on right, all dark background): click on the … button and select the Download/All Sizes option from the menu. Select the Original size option for download.

for the Newest Flickr Browser (controls on right, dark upper, white lower background): click on the ↓ download button and select the View all sizes option from the menu. Select the Original size option for download.

Printing the images:
Make sure to visit Dry Creek Photo to obtain a color profile for the specific printer being used at your specific printing service provider - they have profiles for providers all over the world. Follow their directions for converting the images to the printing profile for best output results. WARNING pay attention to the notes at the site, especially if your printing provider has multiple printers on-site. Don't profile for the wrong printer! If in doubt, just print the images as-is.

Dave Delisle has created an excellent Tumbler Blueprint which you can read about on his site: https://davesgeekyideas.com/2011/10/09/tumbler-batmobile-blueprint/ - you can even buy prints of the design, rolled or framed.

I took his high res illustration and gave it some Photoshop work to make it white on blue. The result is an 8-bit PNG file just under 1MB in size - JPEG produced either a file that was way too big or far too low quality. This image will sit on a computer/diagnostic display within the diorama. From that diagnostic computer cables will run to the Tumbler (and hopefully Bat Pod) which will actually be providing the power for their LEDs, so it's functional as well as decorative.

Search as I might, I just couldn't find a suitable image of a grainy hardwood floor, but I did find a few images of a group of boards. From that I made a bunch of other boards and then laid up this image just like putting together a real floor. It's sized 13.5 x 16" at 150DPI which will allow a bit of trimming to fit a Detolf shelf. Make sure to download the full resolution original. If you shift the saturation, hue and lightness, you can create any other shades/colours you want for the boards.

I'm going to be taking a look at a few other scenes to see if I can easily extract characters from them, so I'll make a note of the Emperor's throne room.

now I have to run or I'm going to be late for my MRI. Need to find out what's wrong with me that I spend so much effort on this stuff. Joking - getting my knee looked at after a skiing fall that put me out for the season.

Deliberating right now whether to upgrade to a pro account. I don't like that the site is buggy, but honestly I haven't found another service with even half the features. I've also looked at setting up my own service but most self hosted gallery and photo software is really poor (Zenphoto, gallery, pwigo etc..)

EDIT: I've chosen Flickr as the new online home of my photos/images.

All images have been migrated to Flickr - no more bandwidth limits, no more missing links. When browsing my Flickr Photostream you'll also find that everything has been tagged with keywords for easy searching.

All images are active - to download the full resolution originals, click on the images in the thread, then click the MORE (...) button in Flickr to then select the "view all sizes" option. Lastly, just click to download the "original size" version.

Thanks for making these, still trying to decide on back grounds for Batman and Ironman. I will need it to be about 20x20, it's going in a Besta.

Added a very nice (if I do say so myself) Tatooine landscape.
