Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal shared six wickets between them to script a famous win for India by 73 runs, for a series-winning 4-1 lead. SCORECARD

14 February 2018
00:02 AM

It's over. India win the contest by 73 runs. South Africa bowled out for 201 in 42.2 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal took the final wicket as he trapped Morne Morkel in front of the wickets With this win, India, leading 4-1, secure the six-game rubber. They also officially become the number one ODI team in the world.

23:57 PM

Here goes down the ninth wicket. Third wicket for Kuldeep Yadav in the 42nd over. Tabraiz Shamsi finds Hardik Pandya in the area between long on and long off. In all, fourth wicket for Yadav. South Africa 201/9 in 42 overs.

23:50 PM

Second wicket in the over for Kuldeep. Klaasen (39) leaves his crease to hit Kuldeep out of the park, misses it completely and MS Dhoni removes the bails in a flash. It's all over bar the shouting. South Africa 197/8 in 41.4 overs. Target: 275

Seventh wicket goes down for South Africa. Kagiso Rabada (3) finds Yuzvendra Chahal at midwicket off the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav. Now it's India's game to lose, even though the dangerous Klaasen is still at the crease. South Africa 196/7 in 41.2 overs. Target: 275

23:32 PM

Heinrich Klaasen takes 16 runs off Kuldeep Yadav, courtesy of two sixes and a four. While India are in the driver's seat at this point, they must not drop their guard with Klaasen. Remember what he had done in the previous game. South Africa 187/6 in 38 overs. Target: 275

23:23 PM

Another wicket for India. Andile Phehlukwayo is bowled by Kuldeep Yadav for a duck. Things are slowly going downhill for the home team. South Africa 168/6 in 35.3 overs. Target: 275. Yesterday Phehlukwayo had said the Proteas batsmen had at last got the measure of the Indian spinners after their thumping win in Johannesburg. He will have to review that remark in the dressing room now.

23:13 PM

Hardik Pandya throws the stumps down at the non-striker's end from mid-off and Hashim Amla goes for 71. He hit the ball and ran straight away for a single but Pandya proved too good for him. Big wicket for the Indians. India are now well and truly in the driver's seat. South Africa 166/5 in 34.3 overs. Target: 275

22:54 PM

South Africa 139/4 in 30 overs. Hashim Amla, who has reached his 35th fifty, will now have to up the ante. The asking rate is close to 7. Amla or Klaasen, one of them will have to cut loose to stay in the game.

22:38 PM

Here is the wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal cleans up David Miller for 36. The left-hander leaves his crease to hit the bowler out of the park but misses it completely. South Africa 127/4 in 26.3 overs. Target 275

Another drop and this time the culprit is Ajinkya Rahane. It leaves bowler Hardik Pandya terribly frustrated. Rahane at short point drops what appears a straightforward chance and Hashim Amla is the beneficiary.

22:22 PM

David Miller is dropped on 30 by Yuzvendra Chahal off his own bowling but to be honest it will be harsh to say it's a drop as it was hit really hard by the left-hander. One can't do much with these catches, they just happen, one can't make them. South Africa 110/3 in 23 overs. Target: 275

22:13 PM

100 up for South Africa. David Miller, who has already dispatched Yuzvendra Chahal for a six, and Hashim Amla are trying to repair the chase. Their partnership has now gone up to 37. This is a really important stand for the hosts. South Africa 102/3 in 21 overs. Target: 275

21:51 PM

India lose their review. Yuzvendra Chahal hits David Miller on the pads, follows a loud appeal. Virat Kohli consults MS Dhoni before reviewing it. Replays show it is missing the leg stump. The Indian camp is stunned by the verdict. South Africa 85/3 in 17 overs. Target: 275

21:43 PM

Hardik Pandya removes JP Duminy (1) and AB de Villiers (6) in back-to-back overs to completely tilt the scale in India's favour. Duminy found Rohit Sharma in the slips, while de Villiers edged one straight through to MS Dhoni behind the wickets. South Africa 65/3 in 13 overs, chasing 275 to win.

21:28 PM

Aiden Markram goes for 32. India would feel great to see his back in light of the reprieve he got on 9 from Shreyas Iyer. He looks to chip Jasprit Burmah but a connection with the toe-end of his bat brings Virat Kohli into play at mid-off. No sweat really as far as Kohli is concerned. South Africa 52/1 in 10 overs. Target: 275

21:15 PM

And now Aiden Markram fetches a six off the bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. In all, he picks up 11 from the over.  Remember, he has been dropped by Shreyas Iyer on 9. South Africa 38/0 in 7 overs. Target: 275

21:09 PM

Shreyas Iyer drops Aiden Markram on 9 off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah. For the second match running he has spilled a chance. Remember in the last game he had dropped David Miller on 6 and the left-hander went on to seal the game for South Africa. India would hope this drop catch doesn't turn out expensive like the last one. South Africa 27/0 in 6 overs.

20:52 PM

Bhuvneshwar Kumar starts the proceedings for India and concedes a four past backward point to Hashim Amla. In the next over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, Amla picks up another four by means of a flick off his pads. South Africa 9/0 in 2 overs. Target: 275

20:10 PM

India at last finish on 274/7. They are at least 20 runs short. Just 55 runs in the last 10 overs. The South African bowlers, especially Lungi Ngidi (4/51), have brought the Proteas back into the game. Remember India were 236/3 at one stage. Stay tuned, we will be back when South Africa start their chase.

20:01 PM

MS Dhoni also goes. Fourth wicket for Lungi Ngidi. The former Indian captain tries to hit the bowler out of the park but fails to connect it properly and Proteas captain Aiden Markram takes a nice diving catch on his left, running from mid-off. Dhoni departs for 13. India 269/7 in 49 overs.

19:53 PM

250 up for the Indians. Three overs to go. They need at least 30 runs in those overs to feel good about their chances. Remember they haven't won a single match at this venue and for the first time in five outings, they have managed to go past 200.

19:43 PM

Third wicket for Lungi Ngidi. Similar to the previous two dismissals. Shreyas Iyer is caught behind for 30 off 37 balls. It's slowly falling apart for Team India. Only MS Dhoni can brighten up things a little from here. India 240/6 in 45 overs.

19:31 PM

Rohit Sharma falls for 115. He is caught behind off the bowling of Lungi Ngidi. Wrong time to get out. Hardik Pandya also goes off the next ball, caught behind again. Double blow to India. Third maiden over in this innings. India 236/5 in 43 overs.

19:21 PM

Shreyas Iyer has provided good support to Rohit Sharma so far. Fifty-run stand between these two. India need these two batsmen to play till at least the 45th over, after which MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya can blast their way to a big total. India 230/3 in 41 overs.  Rohit 112*, Iyer 26*.

19:05 PM

Century comes up for Rohit Sharma, off 107 balls. Quite an eventful innings.  Dropped on 96, ran out two partners but eventually gets there with a double off Tabraiz Shamsi. First in South Africa, 17th overall. India 203/3 in 36 overs. Rohit 101*, Shreyas Iyer 12*.

18:45 PM

Here comes another run-out. This is unbelievable. Once again Rohit Sharma doesn't respond to Ajinkya Rahane's call and the latter is run out for 8. He nudges one Kagiso Rabada delivery towards mid-on and straight away runs for a single but instead of doing his part Rohit chooses to watch the ball and Morne Morkel and Heinrich Klaasen combine to do the rest. India 180/3 in 32 overs.

18:33 PM

India's middle order hasn't been tested much in this ODI series. In that light, this partnership is very important. These are the last out-and-out batsmen. Ajinkya Rahane has had mediocre outings in the last two matches and now is the time that he comes into his own.

18:22 PM

Kohli run-out. Can you believe it? And he is fuming after Rohit Sharma refuses to run after tapping a Morne Morkel delivery in the point area. Really unnecessary. The 105-run stand comes to an end. Rohit now had better make his good start count with a big score. India 155/2 in 26 overs. Ajinkya Rahane joins Rohit at the crease.

18:13 PM

Virat Kohli has been uncharacteristically quiet today. Extraordinary improvement in his batting approach in the last couple of years. One can now easily call him the master when it comes to building an innings. Wait, here comes the fourth six from the bat of Rohit Sharma. Don't want to jinx it but remember he has three double tons in ODIs, the only batsman to score two or more double centuries in the 50-overs format. India 148/1. Rohit 75*off 75 ball, Kohli 31* off 52 balls.

18:03 PM

Here comes the third six for Rohit Sharma today. It's definitely his day. When he starts hitting those sixes, you know he is in for a big score. JP Duminy receives the punishment this time as Rohit hits him over mid-wicket. India 128/1 in 22 overs. Rohit 61*, Kohli 26*.

17:53 PM

First fifty for Rohit Sharma on this tour. At last he has done it. Takes a single off the first ball of the Tabraiz Shamsi over to reach his 16th ODI fifty. India 113/1 in 19 overs. Rohit 50*, Kohli 22*.

17:46 PM

100 up for India. The partnership between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has now gone up to 63. India 111/1 in 18 overs. Rohit 49*, Kohli 21*. All Rohit Sharma detractors are going to eat humble pie today, it appears on the basis of the way he is batting.

17:35 PM

The Shikhar Dhawan wicket hasn't had any ill effect on India's innings. Virat Kohli, as has been the case all through this tour, settles down nicely, and alongside Rohit Sharma, is taking the innings forward. India 94/1 in 16 overs. In light of South Africa getting some their confidence back with a win in the last game, the tourists need an imposing total today. No doubt about that. Rohit 34*, Kohli 20*

17:18 PM

One more six from Rohit Sharma. He looks imperious, doesn't he? This time Lungi Ngidi comes in for punishment as Rohit pulls him confidently for a six over deep square leg. Seems like he has finally got his type of wicket. India 70/1 in 11 overs. Rohit 25*, Kohli 5*.

17:04 PM

This has come against the run of play. Shikhar Dhawan goes for 34. After getting a four, he goes for another but ends up pulling straight into the hands of allrounder Andile Phehlukwayo at deep square leg. India 52/1 in 8 overs. Rohit 13*, Kohli 0*.

17:00 PM

Shikhar Dhawan looks in exquisite touch. Picks up three boundaries in the space of four balls, off the bowling of Morne Morkel. India 43/0 in 7 overs. Dhawan 30*, Rohit 13*.

16:56 PM

That's a bold shot from Rohit Sharma. He hits his nemesis on this tour, Kagiso Rabada, for a six over long-on. That's a statement of intent from the Indian batsman. India have picked up after a slow start. India 30 in 6 overs. Dhawan 17*, Rohit 13*.

16:45 PM

The India openers have been cautious so far, Rohit Sharma especially, which is understandable. He has had a terrible series so far and people, including some former players, are already questioning his overseas credentials. Shikhar Dhawan, meanwhile, has got three boundaries so far. India 13/0 in 4 overs.

16:26 PM

Morne Morkel starts the proceedings for South Africa and does a good job. Six dot balls against Shikhar Dhawan in the opening over of the match.

16:14 PM

Here are both the playing XIs.

India: 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Virat Kohli (capt), 4 Ajinkya Rahane, 5 Shreyas Iyer, 6 MS Dhoni (wk), 7 Hardik Pandya, 8 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9 Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal

South Africa: 1 Hashim Amla, 2 Aiden Markram (capt), 3 JP Duminy, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 David Miller, 6 Heinrich Klaasen (wk), 7 Andile Phehlukwayo, 8 Kagiso Rabada, 9 Tabraiz Shamsi, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Lungi Ngidi.

16:07 PM

News coming in from Port Elizabeth: South Africa have won the toss and decided to bowl. One forced change for them.  Chris Morris is out on account of a stiff back, and spinner Tabraiz Shamsi replaces him.  India, on the other hand, are unchanged.
