MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB


The Department of International Trade is the arm of UK government responsible for supporting UK companies to export and for attracting foreign investment to the UK.  Our work is focused on securing growth and jobs in the UK across sectors and across the country.

 

Based in Hong Kong, this is an exciting role in a busy team.  The successful candidate will support UK infrastructure and other companies with an interest in airports in doing business in Hong Kong, Macau and, working alongside our team in China, the wider Pearl River Delta.  This will be achieved through the delivery of trade missions, events and VIP visits.


What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?



  • Lead on the Airport high value campaign (HVC), building specialist knowledge of the sector and developing a strong network of connections in the UK, Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China. This will include planning for an inward trade mission of UK companies in February 2017 and developing plans for a visit to Hong Kong in March 2017 by Chinese airport authorities.
  • Support the Trade Commissioner in her work to develop opportunities in the security sector in Hong Kong, building on recent visits by the airport authority, Hong Kong Police Force and Hong Kong Customs to the UK.
  • Review work to date on the HVC and gather intelligence on the plans in the pipeline to articulate a renewed strategy, clarifying priorities for the team with plans on how to deliver them and developing/delivering a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan. S/he will work collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders and clients to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.  S/he will also take the lead for the DIT HK team on a number of key stakeholders as part of the team’s new strategic relationship management approach.
  • Using knowledge and network, the individual will gather intelligence on opportunities, undertake proactive business development work on identifying UK companies in a position to benefit from opportunities, and promote those opportunities to them supported by the trade team’s HK Marketing Manager. Business development visits to the UK or the region may be required. The post holder will also contribute to the GREAT campaign work with a particular focus on using the campaign to support HVC objectives.

Management of a B3(L) technology sector lead and an A2(L) trade adviser. S/he will ensure high quality people management is in place within their team, with clear objectives set, strong performance management and appraisal. They will encourage continuous improvement through learning and development plans. They will ensure compliance within their team on budgetary and procurement rules, leading by example. 

  • Degree in  a relevant field
  • Experience of the transport and/or infrastructure sector
  • Experience of managing and developing a team
  • Experience in leading projects independently
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement across all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
