Duties

Parks Canada is seeking a dynamic individual to work as the Partnering, Engagement and Communications Officer for the Northern New Brunswick Field Unit, which includes Kouchibouguac National Park and several national historic sites including Grand-Pré, Fort Beauséjour - Fort Cumberland, Beaubassin, Fort Lawrence, Monument Lefebvre, Boishébert Shipbuilding and Beaubears Island National Historic Sites among others.

As a key player in the external relations team, this individual communicates about these national treasures by developing and delivering public relations and communication strategies and services. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the individual will engage the public, partners and stakeholders to help them understand, appreciate and protect these natural and cultural heritage places managed by Parks Canada. He or she will provide strategic and policy advice to management and staff for making decisions.

This position can be based in Kouchibouguac National Park or Moncton New Brunswick.

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

The intent is to fill this position on a temporary basis (full time) until January 3, 2017. An extension could be offered. A pool of qualified candidates will be created for similar position and different tenures.

. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in business administration, commerce, journalism, communications or a field relevant to the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a field related to the position.

Degree equivalency

. Experience in the delivery and management of strategies, plans, and programs related to public relations and communications

. Experience in researching and writing various communication products (i.e. news releases, information bulletins, public notices, backgrounders, media lines, etc.)

. Experience developing tools to support public relations and communications objectives

. Experience providing strategic and policy advice to management and staff for decision-making

. Experience dealing with the news media and planning and delivering public events where media was in attendance
