Megan Frampton's love affair with books began when her parents moved her to a remote town in New Hampshire where there was only one television station. And then the TV broke. She devoured every book of fiction in her well-read parents' library, finding special joy in Georgette Heyer and the fairy tales collected and translated by Andrew Lang. Megan majored in English literature at Barnard College and worked in the music industry for fifteen years. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband (her former intern) and her kid. ...more

Never Kiss a Duke

I’m delighted to offer Chapter One of Never Kiss a Duke, the first book in the Hazards of Dukes series. Never Kiss a Duke will be released January 28!

Chapter One

Everything Sebastian had ever known was a lie.

“You’re saying I’m no longer the duke. That I am
illegitimate. Do I have that right?” Sebastian Dutton, the Duke of Hasford,
spoke in a clipped, sharp tone. A tone he normally reserved for on

“Eleanor's sisters all murmured their assent, making her heart swell with love. She was so lucky to have these people in her life, people who could be annoying (Olivia), pedantic (Ida), and quiet (Pearl), but who ultimately loved her and wanted her to be happy, no matter how it might affect them.”
Megan Frampton, Lady Be Bad

“Of course, he was a Captain (Ret.), so perhaps firmness was a requirement of the military? She presumed so. It would be awkward to be on a battlefield and pause to look at your fellow soldier in arms and ask, “Should we attack? I think we might want to attack, but what do you think?”
Megan Frampton, My Fair Duchess

“Her cheeks began to burn. Again. Was this going to be her permanent state? Blushing every time Mr. Salisbury did or said anything, or anyone (such as her grandmother) did or said anything around him? Was she to be in a constant state of acute Salisburyness? The sooner she learned how to do what needed to be done, the better. She did not want to Salisbury her way through life.”
Megan Frampton, My Fair Duchess

Topics Mentioning This Author

“Readers may be divided into four classes: I. Sponges, who absorb all they read, and return it nearly in the same state, only a little dirtied. II. Sand-glasses, who retain nothing, and are content to get through a book for the sake of getting through the time. III. Strain-bags, who retain merely the dregs of what they read. IV. Mogul diamonds, equally rare and valuable, who profit by what they read, and enable others to profit by it also.”
Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Notes and Lectures upon Shakespeare and Some of the Old Poets and Dramatists: With Other Literary Remains of S. T. Coleridge. Volume 1

“Because a promise is a promise, Officer Cavatone, and civilization is just a bunch of promises, that’s all it is. A mortgage, a wedding vow, a promise to obey the law, a pledge to enforce it. And now the world is falling apart, the whole rickety world, and every broken promise is a small rock tossed at the wooden side of its tumbling form.”
Ben H. Winters, Countdown City

“Knowledge is a musket. You can use it only as a club, but will you? When your life is on the line?”
Brent Weeks, The Broken Eye

“Don’t judge a man by what he says his ideals are, judge him by what he does. Look at what the Color Prince has done. They’re wrong, Teia. They’re liars and murderers. It doesn’t mean everything we do is right. It doesn’t mean our house doesn’t need a thorough cleaning. I just don’t think we need to burn it to the ground to do it.”
Brent Weeks, The Broken Eye

“I die and go to a library? Sure, it could be worse, but I’ve spent a lot of time in libraries this year. Quite enough time, really. Do I have to stay forever? Where do I go pee?”

Lady W, I think she does--I own the book, but haven't read it. I saw the blurb and nearly cried, because Courtney and I had a similar idea, and I am so in awe of her talent! It's coincidental, but still. Yes, she dresses horribly.
