Men's Basketball All-Conference Team Announced

Purchase junior guard, Deshawn Cann
NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference's 11 men's basketball coaches have voted for the 2017-18 edition of the all-conference team, and Purchase College, SUNY junior guard Deshawn Cann has been selected as Player of the Year.

Cann's teammate, senior center Tarik Allicock was named Defensive Player of the Year, while U.S. Merchant Marine Academy freshman guard James Walsh takes home Rookie of the Year kudos. First-year head coach James Mooney of College of Mount Saint Vincent was tabbed as Coach of the Year in a vote by his peers.

Cann, a four-time Skyline Player of the Week choice, ranks among the Skyline's statistical leaders in numerous categories after switching midway through the year to the point guard position for the Panthers. He ranks second in assists (4.7/gm.) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7), third in steals (2.0/gm.), fourth in field-goal percentage (.520) and scoring (15.6/gm.), and seventh in rebounding (8.1/gm.).

Allicock swatted away opposing shots at 2.4 blocks per game clip, ranking 17th in Division III in that category. He also pulled down a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game, good for the third-best mark in the Skyline.

Walsh, a five-time Rookie of the Week selection, scored 13.2 points per game for the Mariners, and buried 49 shots from beyond the 3-point arc.

Mooney, a 2006 Mount Saint Vincent graduate, led his alma mater to a tie for second place and a semifinals appearance in last week's Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Championship after the squad was picked eighth in the conference's preseason coaches poll. The Dolphins went 16-11 in his inaugural campaign at the helm, including a 13-7 mark in Skyline action.

Cann is joined on the all-conference first-team by: Ammad Akhulaidi of College of Mount Saint Vincent; Bar Alluf and Simcha Halpert of Yeshiva University; Patrick MacDonald of SUNY Maritime College; and George Riefenstahl of Farmingdale State College.

Second-team accolades go to: Nikeem Deleon of Purchase; Matthew Graham of Farmingdale State; Gabriel Leifer of Yeshiva; Tyler McDine and Gerard Nocera of Mount Saint Mary College; and Alan McDonald of SUNY Old Westbury.
