Germany trying to deport bin Laden’s former bodyguard

Germany wants to deport a Tunisian man who allegedly served as one of Osama bin Laden’s bodyguards – after it was revealed he’s raking in more than $1,400 a month in welfare.

The man, only identified as Sami A., has lived in the country since 1999 and has a German wife and four children.

A witness testified at an anti-terror trial that Sami A. worked as bin Laden’s bodyguard in 2000, a claim he has denied.

The 42-year-old’s deportation to his native country has been blocked over fears he’ll be tortured.

But now, the German government wants diplomatic assurances from Tunisia that he won’t be tortured there if deported.

Harald Neymanns, a spokesman for the federal interior ministry, said Wednesday “there are attempts to deport the former bodyguard of bin Laden” and that a ministerial task force will look at the case soon.
