Veteran Volvo BM backhoe loader wows the crowds at MaskinExpo

Roving plant and machinery enthusiast Chris Maginnis of Awesome Earthmovers fame, recently visited the popular MaskinExpo show in Stockholm, Sweden and captured some great footage of a Scandinavian classic in action.

Veteran Volvo BM backhoe loader wows the crowds at MaskinExpo
MaskinExpo is a great show and it’s been one of my favourites over the years, sadly I wasn’t able to go this year as it’s just been too manic on the work front but Chris is a regular show visitor around the world having attended ConExpo in Las Vegas earlier this year too. One of the highlights at MaskinExpo is the display of vintage machines put on by local machinery enthusiast clubs and this year they brought along a rare Volvo BM G-612 backhoe loader which was put to work on the digging plot. Pictured above: A fine example of the G-612 on display in the Munktell Museum in Sweden.  The Volvo BM G-612 was actually produced from 1963 to 1965 when it was discontinued from the range. It took its power from a BM (Bolinder-Munktell) 3 cylinder diesel engine which offered a power output rating of 60hp (45kw). By comparison to modern machines of today it was incredibly slow but at the time these machines were highly regarded in the Scandinavian market. It’s a real shame that Volvo pulled out of the backhoe loader sector recently as their most current offerings were well received by customers many of who I know are struggling to decide on what brand to replace them with next.  Check out Chris’s video of the G-612 in action.
The Digger Man Blog would like to thank Chris for this video footage from MaskinExpo 2017.
