Pop-EDM hybrid duo Timeflies claimed the win for Musical.ly’s #NextWaveJanuary with their song “Gravity.”
The social-networking app that allows users to share videos while lip syncing to popular songs reported that there were more than 550,000 videos created to the 15 #NextWaveJanuary finalists, with an accumulation of more than 194 million views on those videos.
Last month’s #NextWaveDecember winner was Charli XCX‘s “After the Afterparty,” featuring Lil Yachty.
Timeflies, composed of producer Rob “Rez” Resnick and vocalist Cal Shapiro, gained a massive YouTube following through “Timeflies Tuesdays” videos, which combine new music and freestyle raps. They released their first EP One Night in 2012 under Island/Def Jam Records. Their single “I Choose U” followed in 2013, landing them a spot on Billboard‘s 13 Artists to Watch in 2013. Timeflies’ album After Hours was the band’s first appearance on a chart, debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. The duo also performed at the Hot 100 Festival in 2016.
