Sometimes it's the fight that proves your worth.

Porter Prescott spent years fighting to be his own person.
His goal of playing for a hockey club not associated with the Prescott name finally comes true.
But just as he's leaving for the next chapter in his life, he meets her.

Asher Spence spent a lifetime learning she was worthless and unwanted.
She learned that sometimes the only person you can count on is youself, and even then, you can fail.

What starts out as picture perfect can only come crumbling down.
No one listened to her pleas before,
Why should they listen to them now that she's found a place to finally call home?

But sometimes, it's the fight that takes you out of the game.

Note: This is book 1 of 2 in the Porter and Asher story. This does end with a cliffhanger that will be resolved in book 2, Holding.

I love how this storyline is developing!
Porter and Asher are beautifully developed characters and their story is one of slowly growing trust and love.
Porter is just an amazing character.
His patience and understanding with Asher is honorable and beautiful.
Asher's character is also a wonderful character to read because as the story develops, we see Asher gaining confidence, self worth, love and acceptance.
I can't wait to read the final book in this duet!

I absolutely loved this story! There were so many emotions and twists and turns to Porter and Asher's journey. I was glued to my Kindle until the very last word, and then I shouted to the rooftops because of the cliffhanger. I knew it was coming, so that wasn't the issue. It was the shock of where Mignon left us. I NEED to know what happens next! Like, right now! I love Porter and Asher so much. I need Asher to finally be free of her past. I need Porter to have Asher's complete trust. I need their happily-ever-after!

Mignon Mykel did a fabulous job of organically and seamlessly building Porter and Asher's lives together. I loved how she laid out their relationship over a four year span, highlighting the essential moments to their growth as a couple. After reading Breakaway, Asher's prequel, I knew Asher was going to need to be handled with care. Porter was going to have to exhibit patience and understanding that most 19 year olds would find overwhelming. But in true Mignon hero fashion, he was more than up for the task of helping his soulmate become whole again.

Porter is THE BEST book boyfriend! I loved everything about the youngest Prescott and hotshot rookie hockey player. He's sweet, thoughtful, entirely too perceptive, and sexy. He's not arrogant or hotheaded, and he's not as experienced sexually as I've come to expect from similar books. I loved that he was discovering his sexuality right along with Asher. Part of what made this book so great was how Porter and Asher's relationship unfolded. I could feel the connection from the moment they met and sense their growing need to be near each other after each interaction. I felt privileged to be in on this love story and their most intimate moments. It was breathtaking to experience each instance that Asher let a piece of her past go to allow Porter to love her a little bit more.

I feel like I need to say more about Asher. After all, they are trying to get past her history to finally find their true happiness together. Asher is an artistic, beautiful soul who is severely bent. I don't want to say she's broken, because she's not. She fought through her demons and is open to the love and family that the Prescotts give her. She's found her place in the world and is close to accepting it all without reservation. Now she needs to find a way to reshape herself into the woman who can let go of the past and put her trust in the man that loves her unconditionally. Now for my reasoning behind the 4.5 stars...I struggled a bit with her refusal to fully reveal all that happened to her. She doesn't have to give details, but I would think after 4 years in a relationship, she would be able to open up about who hurt her and how she came to be emancipated.

As a side note, I am a huge sports junkie and love sports romances but only if the author is able to bring the sport to life in my mind. Mignon did that! She brought us some action packed hockey moments and did a fabulous job of conveying the play-by-play.

Altercation (Playmaker Duet #1) by Mignon Mykel Mignon Mykel’s ALTERCATION is an emotional and amazing read.  ALTERCATION starts out where Porter and Asher met in BREAKAWAY (Playmaker Duet, #0.6; Prescott Family, #3) but is told from Porter’s point of view.  The story continues with the couple’s lives, fluctuating between both viewpoints.  I adored this story.

Mignon Mykel did a wonderful job developing the characters.  Asher and Porter both grew tremendously throughout this novel, having several obstacles and issues to overcome.  Asher is scarred by her past growing up in foster care. She finally feels like she belongs somewhere with the Prescott family.  She is terrified of losing them, and haunted by her past.  Porter is a great guy.  He is perceptive, patient, and protective with Asher.  Asher and Porter have powerful chemistry.

The plot was well written with interesting twists.  I love how Avery is always getting involved with Asher’s and Porter’s relationship.  I love the explanation to why all the Prescott siblings had eleven tattooed on themselves.  My heart broke for the things the family went through in this story.  Everything that happens is believable and well executed.  ALTERCATION ends in a cliff hanger.  I cannot wait to read the next story, HOLDING, to find out what happens.  I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

*this may be slightly spoilery if you didn't read the 2 prequel novellas: Toublemaker and Breakaway*

I love the Prescott family and really enjoyed getting to see Asher and Porter's relationship develop.
Buuut, there were a couple of things from the novellas that I feel like were tied up a little too quickly.
During Troublemaker we learn that Porter had a best friend Mo. She's the girl he had his first serious relationship with. They end up breaking up because they're graduating high school and going 2 separate routes. She was such a huge part of the novella and then was kind of skimmed over in Altercation. I didn't want a love triangle but it was just handled oddly. I mean he freaking tattooed her name on his body! And then something happened, from a distance, and we never hear from her again.
In Breakaway we find out that Asher was raped by her foster father. The only sexual experience she had was with him, so obviously sex is incredibly sensitive for her. I thought it was handled well during the development of their relationship: her moods and inner battle of wanting to be with Porter physically but having reservations. But then one minute she was jumpy from his touch, and then the next they were doing it all of the time. I obviously wanted her to get to a point where she felt comfortable with Porter, but there was so much build up in the beginning that I was just like, BAM! Now they're getting it on.
It's funny because I think if I didn't read the novellas these points wouldn't have bothered me. But at the same time, I think it's so crucial to read the novellas to fully understand the characters!
With all of that said, I am excited to see how their story wraps up and I do want to see them get their HEA.
Also, Asher is one strong MFer.

Wonderful!
The Prescott family stole into my heart with Caleb’s story and Porter and Asher just demanded their own corner of it! I was tantalized by the prequel to their story and this first of two parts has delivered the emotional powerhouse I was almost afraid to hope for.
“…never had there been a male who gave me butterflies. I wasn’t a butterfly type of girl.”
Asher’s life up to this point was a blueprint for survival when suddenly things began to change. She wasn’t fearful but, taking nothing for granted, she was hesitant to say the least. True friendship, supportive family – these were outside of her realm and she was not going to jump in with her whole heart right away… Even if she yearned to. No problem, though, the Prescott family had staying power. And stubbornness to spare.
“She didn’t need a hero, no, but I wondered if she would ever let anyone in close enough to help ward off the storms in her mind.”
Porter loved his family and moving to another state, another hockey team, was a quest for independence, of individuality. When Asher became one more thing he was leaving, he was going to re-assess all his goals, and make some new ones…
Their first kiss was… perfect. Awkward, with a ping straight to the heart it fulfilled everything that took so long to accomplish. What came before and after it, were events and actions that had them growing up one wonderful and painful step at a time. There were hiccups, hang ups, and heartbreaking times that swept me up for an incredible journey. Can you see the tearstains? Hear the sniffles? I wouldn’t be surprised as I spent a good part of the evening hugging tissues with one hand while clutching my kindle in the other. This story included so much of what life, and loving, is all about…
Love of all kinds was laid bare in a quiet, punch to my heart way that snuck up on me slowly and left me locked in their world long after I swiped the last page. I knew this was a cliff-hanger. I expected it. Planned accordingly even. Which is why I am surprised I was surprised at the ending. It is a cliff-hanger, definitely, but as is the way I find with this author it is done in a unique style all her own. There was no kindle-throwing but that only leaves me more energy to stalk the new releases shelves!

Altercation is a lovely story of hope and healing. One of the things I loved most about this book was the pacing. It was realistic. This story spans years, the years required for a young woman to heal from her past and trust a new love again. Porter and Asher are brilliant together. These two have chemistry. Their attraction grows and creates a safe place for Asher to learn what it means to love a man who will cherish and care for her. The love story between these two is realistic and raw, allowing us to see what this situation would truly be like. That makes this story great!

Asher and Porter grow together in this book, but more importantly, they grow as individuals. Porter learns patience and grows into a man who loves deeply and fights for those he loves. Asher learns to separate her past from present and future, allowing her time to heal and grow as a young woman. Their individual stories are just as important as their story together.

My other favorite part about this book is the family and friends we meet. There is no shortage of people to love and lavish on Porter and Asher. I adored that there were so many healthy and loving relationships in this book. There are many kinds of love and caring displayed in an authentic way. The people we meet are the backdrop that is vital to this story. It would not be as fantastic without them. They create a place that is safe to allow Porter and Asher to find themselves, a place where life can be messy but there is always help and love to be found.

I cannot wait to see where the second in this duet takes us. I knew the other shoe would drop eventually from the hints left throughout this book, but I was so caught up in the love story that I missed the end coming. I cannot wait to see where we end up and how Asher and Porter’s story ends!

Oh no she didn’t…oh yes she freaking did! Mignon Mykel has once again turned my entire world upside down with her newest release Altercation! After reading Trouble Maker (Porter) and Breakaway (Asher), the two novellas introducing us to their backgrounds, I could not wait to get my hands on their full length novel!

Altercation is a beautifully captivating story that will instantly captivate you whole body and soul! The moment this story became available I found myself incased by every word on the page until I finished it a few hours later (super early in the morning when I should have been sleeping). Their story was truly one of a kind and I know that I say this a lot, but Porter and Asher may have been elected as my all-time favorite book couple! I do not think that any other book couple could ever outrank these two in my heart! There is just no possible way!

This story takes place throughout a four year timeframe and the author has done an extraordinary job highlighting and showing us glimpses into the making of their relationship. In the beginning Asher is closed off and if you read Breakaway, you will completely understand exactly why, and she’s afraid of letting anyone in, especially Porter. Eventually, he’s able to break through her walls and their undeniable connection is breathtakingly beautiful. We see the highs and the lows…the good and the bad moments…and trust me they had their fair share of those. Oh and let’s not forget that cliffhanger at the end. OMG that ending instantly left me craving for more and I cannot wait for the next installment, Holding!

Porter Prescott has lived his whole life under the shadow of his siblings. Being “Baby Boy” Prescott or Caleb’s and Jonny’s brother is not his idea of who he wants to be and, in order to erase those monikers, the younger Prescott has put all his work on being drafted to the NHL right out of HS and as far away from his brothers’ team in San Diego as possible. Unfortunately, he wasn’t counting on meeting someone right before leaving his hometown in Wisconsin for his new life in South Carolina.
Asher Spence is trying to make a new life for herself now that she’s out of foster care and school. While passing by the small Wisconsin town, an accident will get her to meet Avery Prescott. Not having anywhere to go, she allows herself to be temporarily taken in by this family without any idea of the changes this would bring to her life.
When I agreed to review this book I didn’t expect anything like this. Porter Prescott is nothing short of a saint when it comes to his relationship with Asher. His patience, love and devotion to this girl are just off the charts and swoon worthy. He bids his time to let her share her past in her own time and with the help of his ever meddling sister Avery, they have one of the sweetest romances ever. There are a lot of ups and downs, because, no matter what, Asher has some very serious issues and her constant secrecy will sure be sending Porter off the edge more than once, but he is determined to break her walls, protect her and keep her forever.
I really liked the first part of their story and can’t wait to get my hands on book #2 to find out where life will lead Porter, Asher and the other members of the Prescott clan.

Altercation by Mignon Mykel is a passionate, emotional tale of two souls connection against odds. This story should be read after enjoying Troublemaker (Porter's Story) & Breakaway (Asher's Story) which Altercation picks up right where these two novella's leave off and spans 4 years flawlessly.

I love slow burn romances that really let you feel what the characters are going through and connection they feel for each other. Mignon has nailed that down to the T in Altercation. The perfect amount of angst, heat and at times humor, Altercation is a rollercoaster of a romance. Porter is a swoon worthy hero who cares so deeply for Asher he puts aside his own sexual desires to love her the way she needs to be. Asher's life has changed so much and being welcomed into the Prescott family finds her healing from her past and looking towards the future - possibly a future with Porter. We are left with a cliffhanger but with Holding due out in days we won't suffer long. I had high expectations after reading the prequel novella's and Altercation met and exceeded everything I hoped for in this story. Now to sit tight for Holding - I'm literally in a holding pattern! 5 Epic Stars for Altercation by Mignon Mykel

First let me say this is book 1 of a 2 part series and yes you need to read this one first. It does end on a cliffhanger which I am not fond of but since book 2 was out already not so bad and it is a shocker for sure!

Porter and Asher- They each have a novella giving their backgrounds.. Porter the youngest of the Prescott children always getting in trouble .. Asher grew up in foster homes never felt loved or wanted. Will one chance encounter change all that?

this book was amazing.. So well written.. It tells the story of them meeting and falling in love with much detail..

I am so happy I was recommended to read Mignon, she tells an amazing story

Porter and Asher have an unbelievable story that just has to be shared! I so enjoyed getting to know these characters -- and his family! This is a first for me by this author, but my one-click finger is very itchy to get some more and soon!

This story broke me to tears more than once, but managed to put me back together as well. I can’t believe how much I enjoyed reading and following their journey. Ms. Mykel really wove this story in a way that I felt like I was watching it play out in my mind as the characters were doing what they did.

I highly recommend you go into this story knowing nothing and come out with the same feelings I am having right now. It’s an amazing story that I know you will love!

I'll say this... Altercation and the subsequent Holding (Duet) is probably my favorite work of Mignon's to date.

This story... the power, emotion, growth of the characters. The suspense. It's all there. It's all real. It's a book that will make you fall in love with Porter and Asher, and you'll fall hard. Yes, it will leave you wanting more but trust me when I tell you, everything in this book will knock your socks off.

Plus, Porter is sexy as sin. So there's that.

I can see this book becoming an amazing screen play one day!

A-FREAKING-MAZING!!! I can't wait for the second part of this duet! Mignon has had me from the start with Breakaway, the prequel novella. I must insist you pick it up before diving into Altercation. I'm so invested in these characters it hurts that I can't be with them right now.

This book had my favorite plot lines: romance, sports, and a dash of mystery. The mixture of all these things made for the ultimate story for me. The amount of emotion that I felt while reading this story surprised me. It was like my heart was passed around the ice by sticks. (I know silly but I couldn’t help myself.)

The ghosts that follow Asher are intense. It was completely captivating how they affect her relationship with Porter. Watching them go through each of their firsts was so enjoyable. I love when an author can make it seem like I’m seeing the scenes play out as if it were a movie, not just reading the words on the page.

I knew well in advance that the story would end in a cliffhanger but boy! I wasn’t ready for that one! I need the next half of this duet right this second!

Grateful to have received a BETA copy in exchange for an honest review.

Wow what can I say, what an amazing reading experience! I was lucky to receive an ARC of altercation. I fell in love with porter in troublemaker and when reading novella breakaway started to fall in love with Asher. I knew that altercation was going to be something special but I didn't expect to be drawn in from the start and unable to put the book down. The rush of emotions experienced from happiness to anger, love and sobbing like a babe what an amazing journey! I can't wait to read holding.

Porter Prescott finally has the break he needed to break away from the pressure of the being a part of a legendary hockey family. He's making a name for himself, by doing the total opposite of what everyone thinks he should do. He's going to be playing in South Carolina instead of San Diego like his brothers and father before him. As he gets ready to start his new life, he gets hit, straight through the heart when being introduced to his sister Avery's new friend... Asher. He supposed to be heading to the airport. Starting a new life. But Asher has such a pull on him in the few minutes being in her presence that he can't leave. So he reschedules his flight not knowing that his life was about to completely change.

Asher is running. She never expected to meet Avery and be taken in by not Avery but her family too. They offer her a place to stay and eventually a job. Then there is Porter. Avery's younger brother. She has this instant connect with him, but she knows if can never be more. She's damaged goods and no one could or would ever love her. The only thing is she can't seem to stop thinking about Porter, even once he's gone to South Carolina.

Avery sees the instant connection between her brother and Asher and decides to play matchmaker. Porter is drawn to Asher, but he can see that there is something holding her back. The two become friends and after a weekend that Asher gets tricked into flying to SC to see Porter, things start to evolve for the two. Asher grows to trust Porter and feeling start to grow. Asher is ready to see what could happen between the two of them but she is so afraid once Porter finds out about her past, not only will she lose Porter but she's lose his family too, who have become a lifeline for her. She's never felt the type of love that she has with Prescott family. Can she risk it all with Porter only to lose everything in the end?

This book is so full of angst yet hope. We get glimpses into Asher's past as thing start to manifest during the evolution of their relationship. Porter is a saint. Patient and kind. This book does end on a cliffhanger and I'm on pins and needles to see what happens next for these two. The book takes place over a 5 year period and your emotions take quite a ride through the years with them. The good news is that book 2 is just around the corner, so it's not a big wait.

Migon's writing is effortless and engaging. You become such a part of her character's lives that you feel as if you are living it with them. I had tears, both sad and happy. I loved every minute of the book and read it all in one sitting, not able to put the book down. Now the countdown is one for Holding!!

Original review: A Novel Glimpse

Note: I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an unbiased review.

I've been waiting to read Altercation ever since I finished its prequels, Troublemaker and Breakaway. (Click on the titles of the prequels for my reviews.) Getting to know Porter and Asher's pasts was both heartbreaking and addicting. Their stories made me hunger for a happy ending for them both. I couldn't wait to find out how Mignon Mykel was going to navigate their struggles and make them wind up together.

Altercation begins where the prequels end with Porter and Asher meeting. There's an instant attraction between them, especially for Porter. He immediately picks up on the fact that Asher is more complicated than she's letting on. That (along with the fact that he's moving to another state for his hockey career) should deter the nineteen year old's interested in her, but it instead makes him want to know more about Asher.

Asher is just as attracted to Porter, but she knows nothing will come of her attraction. She's found a temporary family within Porter's and she's not willing to give up her newfound happiness and safety. Nor does Asher think she'll be able to have the relationship with Porter he would expect. Despite her reservations, it doesn't take long for Porter to convince Asher to give him a chance.

With each book I read from Mignon Mykel, I fall further and further in love with her writing and the love stories she crafts. Her first person dual points of view was amazing in Altercation. Porter and Asher had two very distinctive voices and their histories melded so well together. I also loved getting to see a little bit more of the large Prescott family -- I hope I get books about each sibling!

Porter surprised me a lot in this book. I knew he was a great guy, but I wasn't expecting the patience he had for a young man. He truly cared about Asher's well-being and it made me love him even more. Porter created a slow burn romance with Asher and controlled himself better than any book boyfriend I've ever read. He was almost a saint.

Asher was the more complicated of the characters. Her story broke my heart, but I loved that it was Porter who helped her restore faith in life and love. Their relationship was adorable. I loved how Mignon Mykel made it span not just weeks or months, but years. It was the perfect progression for Asher and Porter's love story.

Altercation was just as good as I was expecting it to be. Watching Porter and Asher falling in love was so sweet and satisfying. I loved the twists and turns to their story. I was shocked by the cliffhanger at the end, even though I knew it was coming. I can't wait to find out what's next for Porter and Asher in Holding.

I got an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review ;) this book… *sighs* this book gave me all the feels… I can honestly say that out of all the stories I read from her, this one is my favourite… without a doubt ;) and I say that without even knowing how it will end… ;) let me explain ;) this particular book is the first part of a duology ;) and said duology is actually part of a bigger series about members of one family… but those two books revolve around the same couple… and worry not, even if you haven’t read anything else written by her, you can definitely enjoy this story… although I would highly recommend you to read at least two novellas, each of them shining light on the pasts of our main couple: „Troublemaker” is about Porter and „Breakaway” is about Asher… you don’t have to read them, but I truly believe it will give you a much better insight into both of them from the very start… ok, now that this whole explanation is out of the way, let me tell you a bit more about the book itself… ;)

I am still trying my best to gather all my thoughts about this story… so how about I will tell you a bit more about our main couple first, maybe that will help ;) Porter is the youngest… I want to say sibling, because I’m sure he’s definitely the youngest brother, but I don’t think there’s anyone younger than him when it comes to his sisters as well ;) anyway… ;) he’s part of this huge family, and even though everything wasn’t perfect between them all the time, you can’t deny that they love and support each other when it really matters ;) Porter is definitely stubborn, confident, and he has been fighting for his independence from his early years, acting rebelious and such ;) but he is a good guy at heart… and he actually acts in a very mature way, especially if you take into consideration the fact, that at the beginning of this novel he’s only 19 ;) he’s a hockey player, which is no surprise, considering that basically his whole family is connected to that sport in one way or another ;) he meets Asher, when he’s about to move away to join a hockey team ;) now when it comes to Asher… *sighs heavily* oh how my heart broke for that girl… because I read her novella before, I knew exactly what kind of demons haunted her… but if you won’t, you will slowly figure out what happened to her… she’s 17 when we meet her, almost 18… and if you’re wondering why she’s on her own, all I can say without spoilers is that she was a foster kid and now she’s emancipated… she met Porter when someone from his family crashed their car into hers… ;) don’t worry, it’s nothing serious or life-threatening ;) but his whole family immediately gathered her under their wings when they learn that she’s on her own without an actual plan or anything… she’s very closed off and distant, not really knowing what to do with a hurricane that is the Prescott clan ;) we get to know her more along with Porter… I don’t really want to say anything else about either one of them, mainly because…

The book takes place over the span of about five years… yes, that’s right, you read that corectly… five years… and that’s not even the end of their story… ;) but it’s only logical, since theirs is definitely a slow burn romance… as in very slow… ;) there is definitely that little spark of interest when they initially meet, but it takes a few weeks for both of them to admit… although at the beginning only to themselves internally ;) that they keep thinking about each other… and it takes a few more months, and one very sneakily organized visit ;) for them to admit that to each other ;) I absolutely loved how patient he was with her… because once he realized that there is something special about her, and that he is so drawn to her, he prepared a plan… a long term plan ;) and to be honest I don’t really want to get into too many details about anything else… ;) what I can say, is that it was absolutely amazing to see how he and his patience helped her get out of her shell… how she opened up to him more and more with time… and since we have the opportunity to see them over the course of five years, we can truly see those changes… it was a beautifully written, honest relationship with its ups and downs… all sorts of hilarious, sexy moments, as well with truly heartbreaking and emotional ones as well… I have only praises to say about how Mignon portrayed them here… this is deifnitely one of those situations where the less you know about what’s gonna happen, the better your experience will be… because I did not know what to expect out of this story, and it absolutely blew my mind… ;)

The main couple is definitely not the only bright part of this book ;) there were lots of secondary characters that absolutely stole my heart… the biggest group of them all of course the whole Prescott family… I am NOT gonna name all of them, because we would be here all day, but I will say that I absolutely hope that at least some of them will have their own stories at some point in the future, because certain things are teased and mentioned here, and I would love to know more… ;) all the different interactions between them were definitely one of the best parts of this story ;) but I need to mention one more person, Nico ;) he’s Porter’s teammate and roommate throughout the bigger part of the story and I absolutely loved him ;) I definitely wouldn’t mind reading about his happily ever after ;) again, I don’t really want to say to you guys about any particular details and / or situations regarding those people, because that way I would definitely spoil you some surprises along the way ;)

Long story short… although I’m not sure I can say that looking at my review… ;) but either way, I absolutely loved this book… it has 2 POVs, which means we get parts from Porter as well as Asher perspectives throughout it, and that’s definitely my favourite writing style ;) not only that, but Mignon did such phenomenal job with their story… *sighs happily* I laughed, aaawww-ed and cried when I read it… or to be more precise, I sobbed… so I’m really glad that I read that particular part of it at home… this story gave me all the feels… and that ending… damn… just… damn… I can’t tell you anything about it, not even a hint, but let me just say, I am very glad that the conclusion to their story comes out next week… trust me, even that week will be too long to wait to see how all of this will end… I highly recommend you guys this book… if you know Mignon’s writing style, you can at least guess what to expect of it… compelling characters who are flawed in the most honest and human way and a story that will keep you glued to the pages… to all of you who are new to her… you guys, this is the best way to start your journey with this amazing author… ;) go one-click this gem right now :)

XOXO

I give Altercation 5 stars for discussing serious issues, such as rape, and cancer, and yet still being able to bring out a true love story and making my heart sore. The cliffhanger left me reeling but also left me with hope that all will end well in the next instalment, Holding.

Mykel Mignon is a new author to me and let's just say, this won't be my last read from her. She told a great story, with great characters, plot, and a wonderful writing style. I look forward to more from her.

Asher meets Porter when, after being in an accident with his sister, she becomes friends with her and begins living in their guest house. She was a foster child since she was three, there were issues and no one listened to her pleas. Although she'd love to leave the past in the past, the ghost keeps rearing his ugly head. What are her ghosts?

Porter Prescott spent years fighting to be his own person. He wants nothing more than to play professional hockey but not for the same club associated with his family. Now his dream has come true and he's leaving for South Carolina. But just as he's leaving to get in with his life, he meets her. Will he be able to leave now?

Asher Spence spent a lifetime being taught she was worthless and unwanted. Now the only person she counts on is herself. A small accident has her world turning upside down. She's frightened that her past will sneak up on her. What are her secrets?

Altercation is a suspenseful romance novel that definitely leaves you wanting more. You will enjoy following Asher and Porter find themselves, grow, and mature together. Just know that this has a cliffhanger but not for long as the next book will be out shortly.

I loved this book and can't wait for Holding.

Altercation is the first book in the Playmaker Duet and is also tied to the Prescott Family series as well. Okay can I just mention how much I love duets? I love knowing that there will be two books, I never usually have an issue with a cliffhanger but while I love a long series a duet at times it just what this book whore needs. Okay sorry for getting side tracked; now it is time to talk about Altercation. I do have to admit one more thing I was at first hesitant on this one but that hesitation went out the window very quickly once I picked up my kindle and began to read.

Be prepared to have your emotions go crazy because this is an emotional one for sure. You will not want to put in down once you start, or at least I didn’t so when that thing called life got in the way I got grumpy until I could read it once more. The twists and turns, the angst, the journey that Porter and Asher’s relationship goes on was well written and developed and honestly I don’t think I would have liked it if it wasn’t as well developed as it was. If Porter and Asher don’t take a piece of your heart then I don’t know what to tell you because they have permanent place in mine and I won’t be evicting them any time soon.

Now there is a cliffhanger obviously, one that I may or may not have yelled about once I got there which had my family looking at me like I lost my mind, but let’s be honest I get that look multiple times a week when reading. If you are looking for an emotional read that will stay with you then this is one that you need to have on your TBR lists!

Altercations by Mignon Mykel
A love story of hope and healing. When Porter gets the opportunity to become his own person, playing for the team of his dreams, he is excited. Life is looking really good. On a trip home just before he has to return to his team he meets Asher. He is in awe of her. Asher has landed up in the Porter household and they have accepted her fully. For the first time in her life she feels the love of a family and she feels the attraction between Porter and herself. Overtime, Porter shows Asher that he can be the man for her. With love and patience he finally starts to break her walls down. Can she ever truly trust him with her deepest, darkest secrets? The story is slow paced but for a good reason. It gives us enough background into each and how deep the love is. It shows how one person can be so scared of her past she can’t see her future. It shows how one man can be patient and show love. Secondary characters come into play in a big way and you will need your box of tissues. The story starts to speed up with regards to the past coming back to haunt you. Be warned this one ends on a cliff hanger and I cannot wait to read the next instalment.

OMG talk about a cliffhanger - I was hooked and I do admit that I have not read anything else having to do with these characters or the series before. I obviously plan to check out this author's other work when I get the chance because I truly enjoyed her writing. This is a combo with sports romance , mystery and suspense, love story and also heartbreaking stories from the past. There may be triggers for those who have suffered abuse but we really only get a glimpse of what happened to Asher in this piece of the story.

Asher and Porter meet on a whim and it really is a whirlwind story when it comes to their circumstances and how they become a couple. Porter is on his way to make his own name in hockey , Asher is looking to escape her past and start over. An accident brings Asher into the Prescott family and she finds a new home and an extremely loving and amazing family. Although she never wants the secrets of her past to come out Asher realizes that to have a real relationship with Porter she has to be honest and face her past. The way she chooses to face it and the way it chooses to come for her may be totally different and that will be what leaves us with our cliffy and the suspense of what happens and when will we know !!

Altercation by Mignon Mykel is book 1 in the Playmaker Duet and makes book 4 in the Prescott Family series.

OMG. Mignon Mykel pulls out all the stops in this one. We get a little insight into Ashers background by reading prequel Breakaway, but even without that, Mignon does a fantastic job with Porter and Ashers story. This one has all the feels and I love the fact that all of the characters are so perfectly imperfect.

This was such an amazingly honest and heartfelt story and I experienced every emotion under the sun whilst reading it. It's an amazing piece of writing by an amazing author. It has great characters, an awesome plot and it's perfectly paced and so easy to get lost in.

As Alt rcation is book 1 of this duet, it's expected that the book ends with a cliffhanger and it's a doozy. Please be prepared for that but I for one cannot wait to see how this plays out.

If you have yet another to be introduced to the Prescott family, please pick up Interference and begin this journey.

I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.

Porter and Asher's story is certainly one that has taken up residence in my mind. I really enjoyed reading the progression of their relationship. This isn't your typical boy meets girl, girls falls for boy and in two weeks they live happily ever after. This story spans several years and touches on some tough subject matter. It had a realistic quality to both characters when it came to insecurities and trust.

Porter needs to win some kind of award for most patient book boyfriend ever. His love and patience towards Asher was great. He had a lot going on as far as career but he always had Asher on his mind and was determined to be a part of her life. I really felt for Asher. She was searching for a place in the world. Somewhere she felt safe and loved. It was easy to understand her hesitation about getting involved with Porter. I so wanted her to find that peace and happiness she deserved.

This book was a bit longer than a normal book would be in a duet, but it totally worked because I was really invested in the characters. 4 stars for this. I'm really looking forward to the continuation on their story.

Just . . . Amazing. That's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of this book. This author continues to impress me with the intimate way of drawing a picture and weaving a story and planting you smack dab into the midst of it. You can't stay detached, it isn't just a story, it's personal.

Ashley didn't have a good experience with the foster care program. When she ran away from her past, she took a side journey before she ran into the Prescott's and Porter. With her dark secrets and hidden guilt Porter has his hands full convincing her he is the guy for her. But being with Porter means publicity and visibility and the past.

There is so much emotion in this story, the pain of abuse and recovery, betrayal, fear, love, healing, growth, the list goes on. You can't help but get lost in the story and love this family and love Ashley. So well written but not a standalone so now the wait for more and completion of the story of Porter and Ashley.

This story was beautifully told and I couldn't put it down. I actually spent the day reading from cover to cover. The storyline was Amazing.

The story centres on Asher, who we met in Breakaway, a novella to this book, and Potter.

Potter and Asher met by chance when her car is involved in an accident , which leads Asher to meet Avery , Potter's older sister.
As the meet, Potter is due to leave to pursue a career in ice hockey, but before he leaves he falls for Asher in a big way. The story follows them for several years.

Asher has skeletons in her wardrobe and plenty of them. She's also had a hard upbringing, which we learned all about in Breakaway. She's very shy, reserved and frightened but finds herself into Potter in a big way.

I loved all of these characters in this story but Asher holds a special place in my heart. Such a strong character, despite her childhood.

A beautifully written love story by this author, who didn't disappoint at all. The style of writing was easy to read as it flowed very well, making it more of a delight to read.

a sweet breathing fresh air of 4 stars

ARC received against the honest review

In brief, the story was heart crunchingly sweet and a fresh read of a sports background novel. Although I haven't read the previous novels of the series, I was able to grasp the gist of it and I fell in love with Asher and Porter over the span of years.

Their story is worth reading for the lovers of slow romance because it takes to develop their story over the span of couple of years and months. I loved their chemistry and the mysteriousness about the girl next door Asher was along with a stranger who just landed up inside Porter's world one fine day and ruined every other "Pussy" for him.

Also, the cliffhanger will famish the reader because I simply can't wait to read further :) <3

Loved, Loved, LOVED this book. I already adored Porter from previous books but I fell even more in love with him as I read this. Even more, I absolutely ADORE Asher and I loved reading about how things evolve between them. I don't want to give anything away but this books has lots of ups and downs and I found myself running the whole gamut of emotions as I read. This is a well written, engaging, and thoroughly wonderful read that I couldn't put down. I absolutely recommend this book. It is connected to the rest of the Prescott series (which is excellent and I highly recommend it) but you don't need to read those before "Altercation" to follow along with the story as it's self-contained. Be forewarned, you WILL want to have a copy of "Holding" at the ready when you get to the end.
