Health tops DDC report card to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

The commission has submitted 14 reports on health-related issues.

DDC vice-chairman Ashish Khetan said apart from the 70 reports submitted to the government, the commission is working on three projects at present – WiFi, installation of radio-frequency identification devices (RFID) and the Aam Aadmi Canteen.

“We will be very close to finalising the WiFi model in the next two weeks. The model is more or less decided and we are examining the nitty-gritties of the contracts. Roughly, the model will entail 1,000 hotspots with at least three access points in east Delhi. It will be in the range of roughly 1 GB per month. It is at the stage of policy making,” said Khetan.

He added that while the project will cover the entire city, it will start in east Delhi. “East Delhi is an unserved market. Public WiFi will be the most defining project of its scale in the way that it is being perceived and implemented in Delhi,” said Khetan.

The other project reports submitted by the DDC to the government include a proposal to install solid waste compactor machines in dhalaos, survey of pollution under control (PUC) certificates in which only four of 24 surveyed PUC centres refused to forge the certificates, multi-pronged strategy to deal with the dengue outbreak, use of remote-sensing technology to monitor vehicular emissions in Delhi, an all-woman police station, setting up of 70 aam aadmi kanooni madad (legal aid) clinics and a six-dimensional sports policy.

According to DDC officials, the commission — that comes under the government’s planning department — had a budgetary allocation of Rs 1.26 crore in 2016-17 of which it spent Rs 80 lakh.

The budgetary allocation for the year 2016-17 is Rs 1.27 crore, of which the commission spent Rs 53 lakh till July.

The DDC was set up by the AAP government in March 2015. The commission had set up 21 task forces to work on different subjects under the Delhi government.

In a letter to the chief minister, however, the DDC stated, “It is proposed that all existing task forces be wound up and in future, as and when required, task forces/expert groups could be set up to deliberate on specific subjects and submit their reports. Experts engaged for such expert consultation may be paid a suitable honorarium, besides TA/DA.”
