Started reading more darker stories and this one definitely fit, very dark and not for someone who wants an uplifting and light book. Not sure if we will ever get to see how the story gets resolved, but I do hope the author decides to finish this work at some point in the future.
One of the few fictions that actually made me empathise with the MC's suffering and misery. Really dark with smatterings of comedy here and there. Only giving 4 star for style because of a little blurb by the author at the start in stylistic choices, but is a GREAT dark fantasy that deserves a read :)
Syle: Awesome- I think the writer put a lot of work into it and research a good example is the way he uses weapons, the fighting style changes according to it which shows how much effort was put into it.
Story: I don’t really read a lot of the reincarnation and transported to another world’s stuff since it has been done so many times! But this one has a unique spin to it and I will gladly keep reading it. Besides that I like the way humor is used its consistent and fits the character. Since we are writing the same type of story(Dark Fantasy) I also find it very interesting and would like to see where it goes.
Grammar: Is very good! The only reason I took half a star off is because some words here and there are not quite right, some sentences are also structured a bit strange. This can easily be rectified by a proof reader. (Difference can be seen between the first few and later chapters.) Except for that I cant pick up any problems. The chapters are a good length and also consistent.
Character: Character development is done very well. How the MC becomes darker has been given a veeeery good reason. I can easily relate to him. The reason I took half a star off, is because in my opinion when someone kills another person for the first time, there must be some feeling of disgust or something. Killing beasts is not the same as killing another human being. I did not really see any backlash in that regard.
Big words, but that's how I feel after most chapters. This story goes deep in humans' emotions: joy, warmth, passion but, alas, even pain, sorrow, sins (yeah,I know it's not an emotion),hate...you'll find aplenty in here. So,if you can stand a couple jabs to your deepest core, you'll find this a really good read and you'll probably immediatly become addicted to it. If you can't...well,just give it a go,worst that can happen is you'll curse the author a good number of times -I know I did XD-
Overall this is one of the better dark fantasies I’ve read on the internet. The MC has believable character development and everything has a pretty solid internal logic to it.
I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of anti-heroes and mature content.
The downside to this story is that it uses the transported to another world trope. So if you’re not a fan of those types of stories this probably isn’t for you. On the other hand, if you like those stories you’ll probably love this.
Author could use someone to proofread but overall the grammar and writing style are well above average for this site.
Awesome, nothing much to say except that your novel is a fresh breath of air since its different from the usual "I went to another world" novels, coupled with the way the "mood" changes(first part was all lovey dovey and light, followed by grim and gore) it was awesome. I came to this site after rebirth online because I couldn't stand how there is only 13 chapters. I was exhilarated to find that there are more here, guess who's not sleeping today? Hope you do more of these!
*This is a very amateur review. *
This isn't just your average story about some mc transported into another world. As of chapter 8, the story has an amazing depth to it; that many fanfics and professional work seem to lack even after dozens and dozens of chapters. It reaches across the spectrum of displaying emotions. Having funny moments, envious ones, pity, excitement, happiness, sadness, etc. etc. At one point I felt really sad for a character (trying not to spoil too much). I completely understood where he was coming from. He was stuck in a rock and a hard place. His friend and pretty much love of his life were creating an amazing relationship that he could only yearn for. How the author adressed the situation and what happened after was well enjoyed. Not because it was really witty but because it was simply acknowledged and the solution came. Not spending an entire chapter to explain how he was feeling and what not. The characters are great and he makes you like the ones you should and hate the ones that you should. They're some grammar issues or misspelled words that I've spotted. But they definitely don't take anything from the story. Also the pacing is a bit akward. Not bad. But it does jump a bit. As I wish the author further made his chapters even longer by adding a bit more about the MC's daily life. But that's just me being nitpicky. This is an awesome fan fiction that if you're looking for some usual fantasy elements but are tired of the same way people deliver them, than this is the fanfic you should start reading!
Wow, just wow.
I'm too lazy to explain the reason behind my rating, but know that I've read it and I love it!
A good read. I liked the nuaunced characters. I liked the nuanced world. I liked the engaging slightly painful feel of the plot. As well the gritty decidely crapsack world. It reminded me of the mistworld series, or the demon's cycle series, or even the emperor of thorn series all great books by my reckoning. In any case, I was almost disappointed when I found that I had already read through all the available chapters.
WC's Mutual Review- As of chapter 17
Overall: 4.25/5 Brilliantly written work with a well orchestrated plot and complex main character. The psychological elements are executed near perfectly and the story will make you feel conflicted as it toys with your emotions and plays with the conventional understanding of morality. The story starts off hard to digest and slightly wonky but that in itself serves to establish a juxtaposition between the characters' emotional status (as of chapter 17 at least. I'm sure the character will go through more personality shifts later on.) Really encouraging to see a proper understanding of psychological phenomena and theory in a story on RRl as well as a wonderfully rich mythos that is gradually developed rather than forced down the reader's throat. (p.s. rounded up to 4.5 in the ratings)
Style: 4.5/5 My understanding of style revolves around 'how the author presents the story,' hence, the non uniform formatting has to be taken into account. I'm all for experimenting with formatting to accentuate certain parts of the story and the formatting tools on rrl right now are atrocious (hopefully v3 fixes that up) but it does distract your readers so you might want to go back and edit it. The initial 'snarky tsukkomi' style was a little jarring, artificial and hard to follow but you've definitely improved over the course of this story and I'm sure a little light editing should fix up the first few chaps. The style later on though, is amazing, mature and easy to digest and it really hooks the reader.
Story: 4/5 This, in my opinion, is a little lacking for now but it's only been 17 chapters so that's fine. The mythos is well developed but the plot needs to be expounded upon. Bigger things have been hinted at so I'm looking forward to it. Good luck.
Grammar: 4.5/5 Needs a little more PR work, especially the first few chapters but great by RRl standards. A lot of typos and minor errors that become even more glaring because of the weird formatting. The lack of use of certain contractions seems to contradict your mc's personality. Substituting "I had" with "I'd" sometimes would go a long way towards making your mc seem more realistic.
Character: 3.75/5 The character is complex and nuanced but his personality development is rushed, making him feel slightly synthetic both at the start and after your first "wham" episode. The side characters are also not fleshed out as much as they could be and some of them make me unconsciously rely on standard tropes to fill in the details. Like the rest of your work, this improves later on makes me round up the rating to 4. But side characters are important and works with a lot of exposition (like this one) always run the risk of glancing over other characters, but you do a very good job at incorporating characterization into exposition later on, so great work.
Conclusion: Very well written, emotional and moving work with great execution of psychology, exposition, juxtaposition of character personalities and a good, slowly unraveling plot. A whirlwind of emotions and storytelling. Incredible work! Great Job! Followed, recommended and WC approved! ^_^
