The Lords of Miami: To Catch Her

Rate this book
Tomás Ramírez was the youngest son of his organized crime family, and the only smear they carried on their perfect lineage. He was brazen, defiant, and shamelessly sexual, with a sadistic streak that left me lying awake at night wondering what he would do to me, or my body, next. He was the type of man that made me hate him while I clung to him. Oh… and did I mention he’s blackmailing me? Mikayla Jones was a sweet, quirky girl, with a dirty past, trying to make her way alone in the world. She was doing just fine in her warm bed of lies, until I came along and burned it all to hell, making her face the truth and confront her demons. “Why?” you might ask… because I’m in love with the silly little girl, and I won’t stop until she’s mine. PLEASE NOTE It has come to my attention that the ARC I received has formatting issues that included a whole chapter being missing. Having read that now the book made a WHOLE lot more sense. Thus my rating will be adjusted to 4-Stars to reflect that fact.

This book started off ROUGH. I am not going to sugar coat it. Chapter one starts off with both the hero and heroine being 19 or 20. Mikayla is a cam girl and Tomás is one of her clients. Both have feelings for the other even though they don't know who the other is or what they look like. Then chapter two shoots us 8 or 9 years in the future with NO indication that we are now years in the future. NONE, not 8 years later NOTHING. I felt liked "CHAPTER ONE" should have been titled "PROLOGUE" with at least some indication when CHAPTER TWO starts that we are now years on.

It was confusing, to say the least because chapter one ends very abruptly. On top of that, the heroine is now working for the hero, and then there is something about a book she is writing, then he blackmails her. Honestly, at that point, I was ready to chuck this one because I felt like I was dropped kicked into a plot missing HUGE portions of backstory.

description

That said, I soldiered on and did begin to get sucked into the story. Or really, the STORIES since there was A LOT of stuff happening in this book, We have Mikayla and Tomás's story, we have Mateo and parts of his story. We have Santi and parts of his story. We have Mikayla's BFF and his story. And of course, we have Elijah. Like I said A LOT of things were happening to A LOT of people.

Apart from the rough beginning, I did find the writing engaging. The pace was solid even with so many different stories going on. There were twists and turns (that ending...it's a cliffy so be prepared.) Action and violence. The sex scenes were hot. There were a plethora of interesting characters. I loved the Ramírez family and how they protect their own.

Overall I found it engaging enough that I will continue to book two when it is released. My rating would have been higher, but unfortunately, because of the beginning, I was left struggling to decide if this was a 3-star book or a 4-star. I ultimately decided to go with 3.5ish and call it a day.

You can read the uncensored review @ Readin' Under Street-Lamps.

Ok no. I really did not like this book.

The characters bored the living fuck out of me, and it took me forever to finish it.

This is what I was expecting:

This is what I got:

Instead of badass mafia guys, we were given preppy pretty boys with guns in their hands. I was so disappointed with this book that it was not funny. I was really expecting a hardcore dark romance, but all we get in the end are teddy bears and pink balloons.

Mikaela and Tomas were plain annoying. They whined about everything and complained like little kids. It really got on my nerves. Isn’t she supposed to be a journalist? How can she be so innocent about the ways of the world? Especially since she basically grew up with an alcoholic abusive mother? If I could’ve, I would’ve gone into the book and staked that idiot with my 6 inch high stilettos.

And let’s just talk about Tomas. He is 28? The son of one of the biggest mobsters of the Miami Mafia? How the hell is he such a big pussy and not dead yet? There is no character to this guy. Seriously. He seems so desperate for attention from the female population that I am surprised that Mikaela even gave his whiny ass the time of her day. But then again, she was almost worse wasn’t she?

I’d like to say that it was me and not you, but in this case it was definitely this book.

I have a bad head ache, and this book really didn't help.

Don't recommend it to anyone.

***Disclaimer: We were notified via email of formatting issues with the ARC copies received earlier this week. Corrected ARCs were distributed tonight. My review will be amended to reflect the new ARC once read.*** Expresso, 02/19/17

I have mixed feelings regarding this story. The beginning of the story is totally discombobulated. Chapter one offers insight into Tomas and Mikayla's initial meetings. Their meetings are a little odd but therapeutic on some level. Chapter two jumps 8-9 years later without warning. Nothing. Nada. Totally lost. There is nothing to differentiate the lapse in time. I found it hard to connect to the characters at this point.

The story eventually settles and a cleaner story emerges. There are holes here and there. However, the story is a bit more palatable. Be warned this is not the average mafia story. I would go so far as to say it's more romance with a splash of dark due to mild violence.

The second half of the book is good and because of the vast improvement, I will continue with the series. There's enough intrigue and angst to pursue the remaining books in the series.

2.5 stars "prior to the change" and 3.5 stars "after the change".

When I saw that Alice K. Wayne was writing a mafia story, I was intrigued. I love her work in paranormal romance and wanted to see what her writing style would be like in this genre as well. While it wasn't as dark as I'm used to in this genre, this novel was sexy, filled with alpha hotness, a sassy heroine and an entertaining cast of characters that I could not get enough of. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel!

Tomás Ramirez, son of a reigning mafia boss and Mikayla Jones have a past. Due a dirty past and secrets she is unable to hide, he blackmails her to work for his family and become his personal assistant. What happens next is a fast-paced story where the Ramirez family and all its sons strive to remain on top as rival street gangs and opposing families attempt to take them out.

I was very engrossed in this story. I could not get enough as it felt almost like a family saga as we saw not only Tomás and Mikayla's story but also pieces of Santiago and Mateo's stories as well. I was completely hooked and can't wait for book 2. ~Ratula

***DISCLAIMER - 02/20/2017 - Review subject to change due to an error in formatting and missing components of the ARC that was distributed. I will update this review once I have had a chance to re-read.***

For me the beginning of this book was a bit muddled. It starts off with both the characters interacting at a young age, then it leapfrogs to years later and the two have a working relationship with no development or preparation. It is evident that the backstory is incomplete and it leaves the reader guessing and confused. The story then bounces around ambiguously acquainting the reader with the rest of the Ramirez family. The presence of the rest of the family is sporadic and aimless at best. I was essentially close to abandoning this book, but I forged through as I wanted to give it the opportunity to improve. Although the beginning was disjointed it did shift and the story started to flow smoothly the more you read on.

TLOM: To Catch Her is categorized as a mafia read, but it is more suggestive of what I deem to be a “vanilla” mafia read. The reputation for violence associated with the mafia is adequate within the story but not to the levels some might otherwise expect. This is not a defect and does not deter from the synergy of the story.

Once I was able to understand and enjoy the story, I did appreciate the vibe of positivity and reverence within the story. The whole family seems to promote and encourage respect for all types of people in society, not just their family. I found myself becoming absorbed with the story and all of the characters introduced. The momentum of the story was solid, and the writing was satisfying.

Overall the story is good and the ending leaves you at a pivotal point. It is enough to entice me to continue onto book 2 when it is released. I am rating this book 3.5* Stars. If not for the confusion in the beginning this book would have garnered 4*Stars.

Wow this book was not what I was expecting from the get go! Yes I knew there was going to be some major mobish family drama. I read the blurb and researched the story. But like within every family, there were secrets hidden from us that come out within the story. This book had a lot of twists within the characters and how they handled themselves.

In this book, To Catch Her, we learn of the story between Mikayla and Tomas. Oh and their family. You get twisted in the drama. But at the same time I felt that Mikayla and Tomas were shackled to each other and to their destiny from the get go. Their dirty laundry is aired out, and what you see is what you get. There is nothing fake in what you are reading about.

You read about corruption and betrayal. You read how certain territories are ran by certain bosses. Just because you have money you remember that it will not buy any happiness or love. But when you read on about how fate keeps bringing Mikayla and Tomas together time after time, you will truly see that they are soul mates that complete each other. I cried a lot with this book. Sadly more tears than laughs. This story sets up each of the brothers perfectly for their stories to be heard. I have an inkling of an idea of what is in stored for us within this series. Look out world! Are you ready for the Ramirez boys?

I received an ARC of this book and in return I would give an honest review!
I liked it!

The Ramírez crime syndicate, one of the three crime families that controls Miami.
Here you get to know the three brothers Santiago (the though one), Mateo(the charmer)and Tomás (family's black sheep)And the rest of the family.

And then there's Mikayla Jones. The strong, naïve, hurricane of a woman! She got a back bone and big heart!
"Instead of being able to count on the police, she had been able to depend on a crime syndicate."

Some years after graduating college, Mikayla get a job as an personal assistant to Tomás Ramírez! But she has an agenda..and she thinks it's secret...

Quentin, Mikaylas gay BFF, is the best! Just love the man!!

The ending of the book..did not see that coming...!

My favorite part in the book;
"...strength isn't measured in your ability to keep the tears inside, or whether or not you act like something doesn't bother you. Strength is how you go on with your life, how you move past it and build yourself back up when you get knocked down."

I've read both of Ms. Wayne's paranormal books and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book since she was stepping into a new genre. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!!!

Tomás is the youngest son of a crime syndicate in Miami. Mikayla is paying her way through college being a camgirl. They meet up on the website Mikayla is camming for and Tomás ends up buying two nights a week so she will be his for the night. They talk about anything and everything after she gives Tomás the show that he paid for. She begins to develop feelings for Tomás that her camming friend, really her best friend Quentin, says that she shouldn't and to end the relationship with Tomás.

Years later they meet up again but Mikayla does not recognize Tomás because they wore masks in all of their encounters while she was camming. Tomás didn't recognize her immediately, but after a few encounters with her he knows that it is his camgirl. Tomás has a proposition for Mikayla, she will write her story on his family portraying them in a good light and she will have to do tasks for the family or she ends up dead.

She gets tangled up in questionable situations and puts her best friend Quentin at risk also when he accompanies her on her "assignments". Mikayla begins to question her moral compass when tragedy strikes Quentin. Will they all make it out unscathed?

The Lords of Miami: To Catch Her by Alice K. Wayne
The prologue is about the two Protagonists in their late teens. Mikayla is a cam girl trying to put herself through college and Tomas is her client. The two develop feelings for one another and yet neither has seen one another. Years later their paths cross again. Tomas recognizes Mikayla when she comes to work for him and his family. He decides to have some fun with her. Mikayla does not like her boss but cannot deny the chemistry between them and she is clueless to who the real Tomas is. There are few points here that are confusing but once you get into the story all is revealed, so just keep going. This is not one story, it is a story of the three brothers and it does jump between them. There is a lot happening in this book and you really have to have your wits about you to keep up. Each brother has his own struggles as well as the friends. There is lots of action and it is fast paced. All the characters are interesting in their own ways and you are rooting for them all. What I came away with, is that once the Ramirez family take you in, they will protect you and you become one of them. Overall I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to book 2. Please note there is violence in this book as well as ending on a major cliff-hanger.

AHHHH, seriously that ending?! You're killing me smalls. I loved this book. While I loved how original and different the beginning was about Mikayla being a cam girl and meeting Tomás it was a little confusing just jumping into chapter two the way it did with no more information about the time jump. But once it all started coming together I couldn't put it down. I was completely sucked in. I loved all the different character POVs that set up perfectly for book two. I loved, loved, LOVED all the nerdy references. From Star Wars, The Little Mermaid, and Doctor Who marathons. It made my little nerd girl heart happy. Awesome book, can't wait for book two!

*Edit*
I received a fixed copy, I was confused since it was missing a chapter. So no complaints from me, I still loved it.

To Catch Her is a good introduction the Ramirez, an organised crime family. It's quite different to the mafia novels that I have read but just as compelling.

Tomás is the youngest of the three Ramirez brothers. Santiago is the oldest and the most responsible. Mateo is in the middle, quite laid back and popular with the ladies. Tomás is considered to be the least responsible. He was the rebel teenager and still a troublemaker in some ways.

Mikayla comes from a very poor background. Since losing her father, she has been fending for herself with her mother being in a permanent haze of drunkenness. She puts herself through college by camming to pay her fees. She is now a successful journalist who doesn’t tolerate criminals.

Tomás manages his family advertising company and when he advertises a job vacancy for an assistant, Mikayla doesn't hesitate to apply. She sees this as the ideal opportunity to look into the criminal activities with the prospect of exposing the organisation. Tomás plays along with her and little does she know that he has a card up his sleeves. One that he intends to use shamelessly! Mikayla now finds herself at a disadvantage but has no choice at this stage.

She is soon tangled up in the things that she despises the most. When there is a turn of events concerning her best friend Quentin, she finds herself questioning her principles. The law is not always what it appears to be. She has this love hate relationship with Tomás but the chemistry between them is off the charts. They have some really hot sexual interludes and other feelings start to creep in. The thing is that Tomás is keeping a secret from Mikayla. A secret which could change everything.

The story revolves mainly revolves around Tomás and Mikayla but there are some very good insights into the characters of the other brothers and the family dynamics. A very close knitted family who looks after its own. They are all different but delightful. I absolutely loved the interactions between Tomás and Mykayla. Seeing them together is frustrating and good fun at the same time.

It's a romantic novel with high family values but be warned, there are some upsetting aspects. It's an addictive storyline which ends on a cliffhanger and I would love to see what happens next.

I was kindly issued with a complimentary eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

*I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review on behalf of Two Darlin' Dolls and a Book Review

To Catch Her is a good starter book. It revolves around the two main characters. Mikayla, we first meet her as a webcam girl trying to make a living. Coming from a poor life but she works very hard for a living. Losing her father and having an alcoholic mother she does whatever she can to survive and put herself through college.

On the other end of the screen is Tomás. The youngest in Ramirez organized crime family known as the rebellious one. Both being neglected and pushed aside in different ways find comfort and form a bond in there steamy online webcam relationship. They soon meet each neither of them knowing the other's true identity at first. They clash over morals on what's right and wrong but devastating events helps Mikayla see everything is not as black and white as she thought.

The story is a good introduction. The author lets us know about the Ramirez family, Quentin, whom is Mikayla gay best friend, and other characters enough to let us get a glimpse on who they are without taking from the main characters.

That being said it does have a lot of potential my only problem was in the beginning it seemed to be all over the place with some plot holes. Switching from character to character. Towards the middle it did smooth out.

I started to enjoy the story and it picked up in an intriguing way. The characters in this story are more than one dimensional. That you can't judge someone if they are good or evil from the life they lead. I found myself slowly being pulled into the story only to have it yank me fully in during the ending. Enough to keep me interested in giving the next book a look.

ARC kindly provided by Social butterfly PR.

This is my first book by Alice K. Wayne and I was really excited when I read the blurb... and that cover?! Amazing!
I am a huge sucker for dark romance and mafia themed reads. It's my thing...sue me! :)
This was okay. I can't give it more than 3 stars because (and this is probably just me) it lacked of depth. I couldn't connect to the characters, and I had a feeling I was missing a background story.
I kept reading but I still felt bored.
It does end on cliffhanger, so I will give it a go with the second book, maybe it will change how I feel.

This is quite an intense and interesting gem of a story that I really enjoyed reading!

Tomas and Mikayla definitely got their start in a very unconventional way and I loved this! There's definitely a lot going on here and this kept me on the edge of my seat needing to know what was going to happen next the entire time while reading this. The Ramirez family is one that I wouldn't want to cross paths with even in the best of circumstances, but I did admire the way they take care of their own no matter what.

I loved how many different stories were being told at the same time throughout this one and hope to see much more of some of these characters in the future. I highly recommend reading this to anyone and I look forward to more from this author in the future.

Tomás just doesn't understand his woman at times, "he went off on a tangent of Spanish words, pacing around his living room, looking ready to tear his hair out. “You don’t make any sense! Sex is totally fine, but sleeping in the same bed is weird?” why had God punished him with such a creature?" I liked that Mikayla could be surprised by Tomas "he was cooking for her, and it was bacon. Hot ***n, Tomás Ramírez might have been the perfect man." I have to say jealous looks real good on Tomás, “who’s hotter than me?” he growled and she burst out laughing, “I’ll have him killed. Give me a name.” The way Tomás shows his feelings is unique, “murdering people is usually a sign of affection in my family,” he agreed and pulled her in for a kiss." There was a cliffhanger in the book, but I enjoyed this book so dang much, I looked over that aspect. I'm seriously eager for the next one.

I received an arc of this book and am choosing to honestly review it! I'd give this book a 9/10 on my grading scale.

I really freakin loved this book! Mikayla is a seemingly average reporter, but has the agenda of making it big in her world. So she agrees to go undercover and work as a secretary to the youngest crime syndicate's son. Little would she know that they had technically met years before and that he knows all the vulnerable things about herself she wishes she could forget.

What I loved about this book:

-Mikayla and Tomas have a perfect chemistry together and I loved all of their more steamy scenes together! The author wrote those scenes so hot I needed to turn off the heat in my apartment haha. They also have a good back and forth conversation wise. It's not all the time you get stories that have the perfect balance of sexiness and conversation.

-Even minor characters are developed! Yes! Thank you for developing everyone! It just always adds more depth to the story.

-The overall plot line was so intriguing I almost forgot I was reading a steamy romance for a bit. I just needed to know more! And dang was that ending not what I expected!

The only thing I felt off about:

-The time jump between the first chapter and the rest of the book. I was kind of confused for a moment as I had thought Mikayla was in school and then all of a sudden she was a journalist and was going undercover....Then realized there was a time jump when Tomas mentioned she was 27 haha. It wasn't super jarring or anything, just maybe put a however many years later has passed at the beginning of the next part of the book.

The blurb for The Lords of Miami: To Catch Her really caught my attention and made me want to read this book. As far as steamy sex goes, this book has it in spades! If you're looking for lots of heat, look no further.

The characters, Mikayla and Tomás, were well developed and likable. I just never felt the chemistry between them, despite the great sex. There were a lot of secondary characters and family members in the story, which I found somewhat distracting.
I enjoyed the steamy sex, but the plot seemed a little busy and confusing at times. I would have liked to see more focus on the two main characters and a little less on family.

This was my first book by Alice K. Wayne. It was a good book, but just didn't make it to great for me. This book is the first in a series, I look forward to the continuation.

Whoo! Girl! The things Alice K. Wayne can make you feel, make you fathom as normal, make you crave. This book is a departure from her previous novels, but still her writing style, and well within her wheelhouse. I was pulled into the story. I was dragged through the trauma. I became a voyeur with scenes so steamy I had to put the book down and fan myself. Lordy! I am officially fully invested in the Ramírez family. Pick this one up, you won't regret it.

I really did enjoy this story. Its a mafia book and something different from Alice. It has twists and turns and lots off drama that holds you in.
The characters are great with lots of chemistry. There is lots going on that will keep you in this. With this type of read I was hoping it would have been darker but besides that I still did enjoy it.

Almost 4 Stars
frustrated often but this one had me just about ready to throw in the towel!
While the Ramirez boys are as different as three brothers could possibly, they are also connected by a family that plays by its own rules.
Santiago is the eldest of the brothers and as you might expect he wears responsibility well, and while ladies’ man Tomás is propping up the other end of the trio as the baby of the bunch, it is Mateo in the middle that seems to scream trouble from every pore, I have a feeling that his story will be explosive.
But that will have to wait because in this we get a better look smooth operator Tomás and Mikayla.
Now, I would have considered that as journalist Mikayla would have been a little wary of taking a job with Tomás, I mean I understood that it was as a means to an end and that she was only actually on a fact finding mission, hoping to dig up some dirt on the criminal world that the brothers and their family move amongst but did she never think for one second that she might not be the only one keeping an eye on what was happening around them, Tomás may have bene playing his cards close to his chest but it was obvious that he was holding all the aces. Mikayla just didn’t know it yet!
The chemistry between the two of them was intense but not everything was what it seemed and Tomás knew that when she found out what he was hiding nothing would ever be the same again. Could he keep it from her?
I liked the dichotomy that Mikayla found herself in when she had to face the situation that came up with her friend Quentin, would she relinquish her principles or could she find a resolution…I had my doubts.
Between the two of them I found myself both fulfilled and frustrated. They were had the capacity to render me both speechless, yet frustrated at the same time. Overall I think it just about worked and the inclusion of the remainder for the family definitely helped.
This may have been a family that walked a fine line between crime and criminality but they did so together, they understood family and what it took to look after their own and that I couldn’t fault.
A few teething problems that ere soon ironed out and on the whole I would say a decent read, looking forward to the next story.

This is my first book by Alice K. Wayne and I'm happy to report that is was simply fantastic. I have a weakness for mafia romances... and they can be hard to come by when you are looking for something special. But Wayne delivered on all fronts and left me on the edge of my seat for just a little bit more.

The Lords of Miami: To Catch Her is the first installment in this thrilling series. Packed full of heart, heat and suspense, this story took me on a journey full of ups, downs, and everything in between. To Catch Her was sexy, sweet, intense, captivating, passionate, suspenseful, and nothing like I expected it to be in the best kinds of ways.

Tomas.... troubled guy who connected with one girl in a different kind of way a few years back. Even when she disappeared, she was never far from his mind. Now, he is older and trying to prove himself and when the one who got away walks back into his life.... he'll do anything he can to keep her there, even playing a little dirty to get what he wants.

Mikayla...sweet, trusting, and has a little mark from her past in the form of being a cam girl. She's not overly proud of it but she did what she had to do to make ends meet. Now she is ready to take on the world and about to make a change that is going to alter the course her life. When Tomas blasts into her world, nothing will ever be the same.

This journey was brilliantly penned despite that ugly cliffhanger that made me want to scream. Told in multiple point of views, the Ramirez family is full of complications, control, and mystery... but Tomas and Mikayla are something important.

This book was full of layers and I enjoyed each one that was peeled back, relishing and savoring each bit that was given to us. And seriously y'all, I am on pins and needles for the next in this series.

I highly recommend this book.

I was gifted To Catch Her (The Lords of Miami #1) in an ARC in exchanged for a honest review. This was my first time reading a book by Alice K. Wayne, and I must say she made me a fan of her work. I am giving this book 5 stars because it had so much going on it was never boring. And I liked how the writer is introducing possible new characters for who might be in the next couple of books. I loved when a author does that so that way we can get to know them before they get their own story because there were some characters I would love to get to even better. So for me I think Alice did a brilliant job the way she started off this series. I felt like this was just the beginning of Tomas and his family like the writer was keep it light to see how the reader would react to this story and characters. I honestly feel like this series is just going to get better and better. I hope we get to hear more of Tomas and Mikayla story because you just can't help but fall in love with this couple. Yes it starts off with him blackmailing her but hey how else was he going to get her to stay close to him besides what else can you expect he is in the mafia. And even though she acts like she hates it deep down she is loving ever minute working side by side with him. Because I think they both knew that they were perfect for each other they both have ugly secrets and only they can understand each other. I enjoyed this book because it bring so many different emotions and it had twists that you did not see coming. I so can't wait to read the next book. I don't want to spoil this book to much all I'm going to say is if you love mafia books, or books that have a sexy alpha male who knows what he wants and does anything to keep it. Then this is the book for you.

What I first love about The Lords of Miami: To Catch Her is the cover, I think it is beautiful and so different and fits perfectly with the story inside. The beginning of this story details how they met and why he wants To Catch Her, this is the first story that I have read about camming.

The connection between Tomas and Mikayla is brilliant and their friendship and romantic journey was excellent and I love how he called her Jones and their banter both humorous and erotic was spot on. The relationship between Tomas and his two brothers was interesting and also the family dynamic with their parents was refreshing. HIs mother I immediately liked and her strategic playing in the lives of her three sons was a great side story.

Now the only thing that annoyed me was the multiple storylines, at times I admit I became confused, thought I had missed something, went back and made sure I was on the right track. The mafia and gang storylines were aplenty and you have to keep your wits about you, all three brothers have a story, this is just not Tomas and Mikayla's story. We deal with Russians, gangsters and then their workers who have true allegiance to the Ramirez family.

I know other reviews are talking about the cliffhanger for Mikayla and I did not see that coming but it was the other two cliffhangers in the story with Savannah & Mateo (who is she talking to?) and then also Elijah & Santiago at the warehouse. So much is happening in this story and there are so many unanswered questions that I simply want the next book - like now! So after finishing The Lords of Miami: To Catch Her I go hunting on Goodreads, Amazon and on Facebook, no mention of when the next book is coming out, I am now a bit annoyed as the way it ends is brutal, how much more can be thrown at Mikayla, I was hoping for some happiness for her with Tomas.

***ARC PROVIDED BY THE AUTHOR IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***

To Catch Her (The Lords of Miami, #1) by Alice K Wayne is a mafia romance.  I did enjoy the story and it reminded me of a soap opera in novel format as we are introduced to several people and have jumps through time in which the characters age.

Tomás Ramirez is the son of a mafia boss that is obsessed with Mikayla Jones. Tomás blackmails Mikayla and forces her to work as his personal assistant. We see the story of rival gangs and the Ramirez brothers striving to stay on top.

This book is a cliffy. That being said, this book is filled with alphas, steamy hotness, humor, and great characters.  I am looking forward to book 2 in this series! 4 stars

A powerful story of love and suspense. Danger and passion. A family filled with loyalty, deceit and betrayal. Mikayla and Tomas are the main characters in this book that is addicting in the best of ways. It leaves us in a cliff hanger but not only craving for more, but begging for it.
There story starts pure but then turns to deception but through it all their love is what keeps them in sync.
I was enthralled with the characters. Sucked into their drama and begging for the next page to give me more. I can't wait for the second book in the series to come out!

So I'm on the fence about the novel. There is some gaps in the story that had me some what confused. It was like a huge jump without actually telling you what is happening. I had to go back to make sure I didn't miss anything. It's a strong novel and the characters are a huge plus. Each one is unique and given enough detail that it's about more that just two people, Tomas and Mikayla. The family aspect for Tomas, was completely different than most mafia stories. His family has a heart.
This has to be my favorite line though because it is completely true... “Murdering people is usually a sign of affection in my family,” he agreed and pulled her in for a kiss.
I really enjoyed the ending. Even though it's a cliffhanger, it wasn't at all expected!

This is my first book from Alice K. Wayne and I enjoyed it. This is the first in a series and I look forward to reading the rest.
Tomas and Mikayla had a different start to their relationship. The sex between is steamy. Their were a lot of secondary characters and family in the story. At first it was a little distracting, but I eventually got them all sorted out. The characters and story was well developed. Overall, it was a good read.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. The book had me from the start of book to the very end. Her writing flows and her characters have it together. Thomas and Jonesy are by far my favorite couple. They have emotional ties to each other and I can't wait for her next book to come out. I had one moment those where what the heck just happen. Thanks for a wonderful book Ms. Wayne!!
