Baby Daddy

Rate this book
We met in a trapped elevator.

Emmett was on his way to work, sophisticated and handsome in his tailored suit and tie.

I was on my way to the sperm bank. Awkward, right?

At thirty-five, my life hadn’t taken the path I thought it would and I was tired of waiting—I wanted a baby. And I was ready to take matters into my own hands to make it happen.

After our ill-fated elevator encounter, Emmett insisted on taking me to dinner—he also insisted on something else—that I ditch my plan involving a turkey baster and let him do the job. He would be my baby daddy. He was a wealthy and powerful CEO with little interest in diapers or playdates. And since he didn’t want kids, I’d be on my own once his bun was in my oven, free to go my own way.

But once his baby was inside me, it was like a switch had been flipped, and I got a whole lot more than I ever bargained for.

This full-length standalone contains a hot, swoonworthy hero, lots of playful banter and some hot baby-making s-e-x! Enjoy.

Our time together has a set expiration date, and even though it will be hard, it’s also necessary. For a fleeting moment, the flash of a memory takes hold. I reflect on what my friends told me way back when, that love shows up when you aren’t looking for it anymore.

Just when I think I’m about to give up on Kendall Ryan, she goes and writes a story that reels me back in. She’s written so many books and I will be honest, not everyone has been a winner for me, but it’s when she writes like this, that my faith in her is renewed. ”Baby Daddy” isn’t a deep thought provoking read but it’s 100% fun and steamy! I love romances that start between two strangers who meet while stuck in an elevator together. I don’t know why, I just love this trope!!

Jenna Porter is a thirty-five-year-old bookstore owner who is taking matters into her own hands and is on her way to a fertility clinic in hopes of becoming pregnant. She has zero faith in the opposite sex and is determined to have a child on her own. She wasn’t looking for a man to be a part of her plans but then she gets stuck in an elevator with sexy Emmett Smith.

Emmet is the CEO of his family’s company, Baxter Books. He’s nearly forty and has never been in a serious relationship nor has he been tempted to be in one. Emmett loves his life as a single man and enjoys uncomplicated sex with an endless supply of women. While stuck on the elevator with Jenna, he deduces where she was off to by the floor she was heading for and seeing that he’s a red-blooded American male and she’s a knockout, he offers Jenna his sexual services. He’ll get her impregnated the old-fashioned way and then will go on his merry way without any attempts to be a part of the baby’s life. Sounds like a simple plan, but things don’t turn out the way they expected!

As soon as they become intimate, Jenna and Emmett are blown away by their ”out of this world” chemistry. While the initial plan was to have sex during Jenna’s ovulation period and only until she becomes pregnant, the two come up with various excuses to be intimate on many more occasions even after Jenna becomes pregnant.

When feelings start to blur the lines between Jenna and Emmett, will they both be able to take a chance on love? Or will their fears of the matters of the heart keep them from reaching for that “happily ever after” that is just within their grasp?

Baby Daddy is one of those books that shows what Kendall Ryan does best. Short, sweet, flirty, and fun. I love her books for this reason. Knowing I can pick one up and usually finish it in one sitting with a huge smile on my face- it’s a good feeling! I really enjoyed Baby Daddy. I listened to the audio book and got through it in a day. One of my favorite narrators (Sebastian York) narrated Emmett, so that is always a huge plus!

Baby Daddy starts with two random people meeting in (and getting stuck in) an elevator. One is on their way to a fertility clinic, the other on his way to work. The two strike up a conversation and there is obviously chemistry between them. Somehow, Emmett decides maybe Jenna could get pregnant the old fashioned way… with his help. It would be a no strings attached, using him to impregnant her, then they would go their own separate ways. Emmett has no desire to have children or settle down, but there is something about Jenna that draws her to him.

It’s funny how things change with time… Emmett and Jenna have so much chemistry together, and it’s not just sexual chemistry. The more time they spend together, the more both of them start to fall. It’s not part of the plan, but maybe plans can change?

This book was steamy, entertaining, and a whole lot of fun! It was a great book to listen to and I highly recommend the audio book if you’re looking for something short, sexy, and sweet!

I had a hard time getting into this one, mainly because of Jenna. ( the heroine) I found that she was selfish throughout the whole book. Emmett was a very sweet hero, and he was constantly doing everything to please Jenna. There really wasn’t any compromise, nor was there give and take. As a result , I had a hard time becoming fully connected to the characters.

I usually love this author’s books, this particular one wasn’t one of my faves....

3.5 Stars. The blurb to this story really captured my interest and attention. There seems to be an influx of this type of story lately where the heroine is ready to have a baby on her own when the hero comes along. However, this one stood out for me.

Jenna is a professional woman who knows what she wants. She is independent and is ready for the next stage of her life. Upon meeting Emmett, sparks fly. Emmett is a busy businessman that has no time for or desire to pursue relationships. However, he is more than interested in a strictly sexual arrangement with Jenna.

I really liked Jenna’s opinion, stance, and modern take on motherhood. The hero and heroine’s meet and subsequent understanding, however, happened rather quickly in my opinion. I would’ve liked for them to have a little more page-space within which to develop their beginning. Still, I was still able to get a general sense of their characterization and was entertained. I enjoyed the way Emmett’s feelings changed and evolved. The writing was strong. The plot was ok in execution. Pacing/flow were strong after the rushed beginning.

Safety: No rape or abuse. No others for either.

STORY OVERVIEW AND REVIEW

Jenna and Emmett meet inside an elevator on her way to the sperm bank. They get stuck inside, and instead of getting to know each other or maybe make small talk, they end up discussing Jenna's plans of putting a bun in her oven, and Emmett helping her put said bun.

Jenna would have outright said no, but Emmett can be pretty convincing when he wants something. It also helps that he's incredibly good-looking. He also sounds smart. Surely his genes would be a great addition for her baby. And his proposed way of getting her knocked up is a great enticement, too. He doesn't want a family but wants the way of making one, so it's a win-win for them.

They agree on the terms and off they go to babytown. Emmett is nothing if not determined. He'll do his best to get her knocked up, and he'll do his best to make sure she enjoys the process, too.

But like most baby-making romances, things aren't as easy as they first planned it. When feelings are involved and people are attached, letting go and moving on is becoming the least favorable choice.

I admire Jenna's independence and her stand on motherhood. Having a mother who raised her on her own showed her she can be a good mother without a man, and she's confident she can do it. She goes after what she wants, and it's not just about the baby. She's passionate about her business and worked hard to achieve her dream.

Emmett is the typical rich playboy, but there's something so charming and endearing about the man that I can't help but love him. I love that this all started out as lust for this perpetual bachelor, but then he started falling for Jenna and loving the idea of starting a family with her.

I have to admit there were times Jenna frustrated me. Emmett was ready to go all in, but she refused to see it.

Overall, I still enjoyed it. The banter was great, the sexual tension wonderfully written, and the pace just right.

WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT THE AUDIOBOOK?

First of all, Sebastian York. Need I say more? This man could read a shopping receipt and I'd still enjoy it. He emulated Emmett's personality perfectly; there was the playboy attitude, that slight cockiness, and the confidence that's very Emmett. He also has great comedic timing.

Same goes for Virginia Rose. This is the first audiobook of hers I've heard, and I really like her. I'm pretty choosy with female audiobooks, but Ms. Rose sounds great. Lively and full of personality like Jenna. There's nothing robotic about her voice, and I can hear the characters' feelings in her narration.

The pacing of the narration was great, and there wasn't a time that I got bored. I loved listening to both narrators, so kudos to them!

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS AUDIOBOOK TO A FRIEND? IF SO, WHY?

The narrators made it an enjoyable listen, and their performance made the story even more entertaining. If you're looking for a quick and fun romance between two lovable characters, you'll enjoy Baby Daddy. Oh, and if you're a fan of the baby-making trope, obviously this one is for you.

Loved, loved, loved it! Emmett and Jenna almost made me want to go the parenting route again. I kid!! But seriously, this book is just what I wanted -- sexy, swoony, with a dash of sweet! The main characters are real and relatable. I enjoyed their back and forth banter.

Here's what I loved: Emmett!! He could knock me up any day! He's pretty much everything I love in a BBF. Smart businessman with a sense of humor and side of sweet! Jenna is also a fabulous character. She's a professional woman who's taking the bull by horns....so to speak. She knows what she wants and she's not afraid to go for it. The setup is great. The writing is great. And the end result left me smiling!

Overall, I enjoyed it immensely and the epilogue is amazeballs! Highly recommended.

Romantic, super sexy and so much fun!

Baby Daddy is an adorable, sultry rom-com featuring the fun-loving, intelligent Jeanna who's ready and determined to be a mother, and the successful, hard-bodied Emmett who has no intention of ever being a family man.

The prose is witty and lighthearted. The characters are charismatic, playful, and endearing. And the plot is an engaging mix of drama, emotion, sizzling chemistry, saucy innuendos, flirty banter, palpable attraction, and of course some steamy baby-making.

Baby Daddy is a charming, romantic, delectable indulgence with a humorous plot, irresistible characters and an ending that will leave you smitten and yearning for more!

3.5 Surprise Feelings Stars
* * * 1/2 Spoiler Free-Limited Time FREE!!!
It is always fascinating how all of a sudden every other book coming out is about a particular concept. Right now we have any number of books using the focus of 30 something women who want to have a baby and are prepared to do on their own. They either had bad relationships and now don't trust any men...or they had childhood traumas causing them to not believe in marriage or happy ever afters...

I have read many of these books and each author has come to the table with different ways to approach the troupe to leave their mark. Each has the stages of the meet, decision to do the deed for a baby only and then the enviable realization the feelings are real and now what...

In Baby Daddy by Kendell Ryan,
the first meet happens in a stuck elevator. There Jenna Porter is on her way to look into artificial insemination. She is thirty five, has her own business and was raised by a single mother. She has thought long and hard and finally got up the nerve to take this step. The Fertility Clinic is on the 13th floor and as the elevator doors are about to close, she prays the number of the floor is Not an omen.

Emmet needs to get to his office and sticks his hand out to stop the elevator doors closing. From that first look between these two...we get exactly where Emmet's head is at... He is gazing at Jenna and recognizes her beauty... and his inner dialogue with his body lets us know how very attractive he finds her. Jenna cannot believe she has to be in this elevator with this man who looks like he came off a runway... only better. She is trying to ignore him and then the worst happens...

Their elevator gets stuck...Yup, Jenna is stuck with this man who is sex on a stick and she is going to miss the appointment at the clinic which took months to aquire...so she could arrange to get pregnant....

And then it starts... Mr. Man seems to know how to contact the building and alerts them of the elevator situation. They hear it is going to take awhile and after this man saying all of the correct things like ... are you alright, gives his name...She asks if he works in the building etc..And then he starts with the Comments.

He sees the number 13 bright in all its glory... and asks/states things like "going to the Sperm Bank... or the Masturbation Station...

OMG, he didn't just do that...with flirty eyes and all...
Well, he did and worse knows that is the only company on that floor. It is the moment of truth and so the conversation happens of, Yes I am going and why... and he seems to understand the want for kids... just not, no way for him...But his lower half is very interested in this woman...so he says the unthinkable...

He offers to do the deed with her and then have no connection after, leaving her with what she wants... a baby on her own. Jenna looks at him and thinks this is crazy. Yet, her lady bits are interested and he is very interesting...so they decide to meet and talk a little more....

This is the set up and know our guy is very confident about his abilities. He is extremely focused in his work as the CEO of a large book company...his dad started it and with all the work he did, he was almost an absentee father...at least that was what Emmet's mom drilled into him...and the cause of why the dad/she cheated. With seeing and experiencing all of these things growing up, Emmet feels he cannot be a father or partner and run the company the way it needs to be run. That is why knocking up Jenna is a perfect thing...

He is very attracted to her... she is to him and he can give her what she wants...Win Win...
Except...when all of this Baby Making starts to take place...what happens when both of them start to feel things for each other...

Oh, and there is this other complication floating out there too...

This is a Kendell Ryan book... so you know there is going to be banter and very smokin' hot sexy times. I think the concept was good and mostly the read was entertaining...I was not all that in love with Emmet at first as his intro was a bit crass and over the top "Dick Obsessed" and the hiccup of the plot pushed the reality factor....But as the book developed and each became open to each other...there were sweet moments.

If you are a Kendell Ryan fan and love a Baby tale then put this on the list to enjoy.

I’m not the right auditorium for such stories.

But I read the blurb and well, it’s kind of silly to complain now *lol*
So, I clicked 3, no one is hurt, the world is ok.

What I liked:
- finally! FINALLY the heroine asked the man, she was going to have sex with, to get tested for STDs and to show her results. FINALLY!!! Only this point deserves positive rating!
- They made an official agreement about the child’s future
- Epilogue was the best! Perfect mix of family & career. Loved it!

The rest was just ok. He was a manwhore, he spoke to his dick; she was kind of cool, but then not really –> typical contemporary romance. Safe though!

4 Mr. Daddy Stars

Yes! Baby Daddy was exactly what I was looking for in a romance read, it was a sweet, easy and fast book and most of all, it was super steamy. Emmett and Jenna make an incredible hot and adorable couple, I enjoyed Baby Daddy immensely.

The best part of the book was the meet-cute. I loved that Emmett and Jenna meet in an elevator and strike up this crazy agreement. One wants a baby and one likes the process of making babies, so why not work together?

Baby Daddy is the over-top-cheesy romance reads I devour like crazy. It’s not realistic, but the story made me smile from start to finish. This book was my jam. I crave for these kind of light-hearted, make-me-feel-good kind of books.

The best part of the story was the pacing and flow. There was never a dull moment and I loved how quickly things progressed. I felt like we got to the heart of the story and the interactions between the two main characters really worked well.

Emmett is a player, but he’s super attracted to Jenna and well, he wants to lend a helping hand. Jenna was probably my favorite in the story. She’s so awkward and I loved how she reacts towards Emmett.

This isn’t your typical trying-go-get-pregnant story. For me, Baby Daddy was different, refreshing and completely happy-go-lucky. BEST of all, there was plenty of steam to keep me interested.

Whew. What the hell. This could and would have been atleast a 2-3 star read if and only if, Jenna isn’t such an asshole. Jesus. What in the world? This book is so irritating because the heroine is a selfish, insensitive, detached bitch. I really feel bad for Emett. I feel like his character does all job just to make this book barely bearable.

Jesus. The sex scene is so cringy I want to swallow an amnesia pill just to forget I’ve read it. Ugh.

Funny, laugh out loud read by Kendall Ryan. Emmett is a workaholic and has no need for a family or marriage, till he ends up in an elevator with the sexy Jenna. Once the plan is hatched his thinking starts to change. Jenna has had enough with men and wants a baby so she takes matters into her own hands or baster so speak, but on her way to the sperm bank she gets stuck in an elevator with Emmett and he proposes and offer she really shouldn't but does take. This was a great read, funny, romantic, action packed great characters.

Omg this book was so hot, it really needed to come with a warning and a change of panties. From the very start i was loving the whole concept. The chemistry between them both was so instant and powerful I loved them as a couple.

Of course Kendall Ryan is one of those automatic go to authors when your in the mood for something light and easy and this one just nailed that to perfection. The conversations were fun and flirty and the sex scenes were so hot. But we still got a lot of great emotional connections.

Emmett was more than I initially expected from him and I really did fall head over heels for him. Jenna was pretty likable and despite a few stupid miscommunications I really did enjoy her character.

There was a bit of drama hanging over the couple from the start and I liked that it didn't develop into a major issue but i would have liked to see a bit more information in the resolution.

Overall this was the perfect book for a lazy kid free Sunday and hubby appreciated it too.

This was a good read. I enjoyed the no strings make a baby plot, and I liked the characters. It just didn’t blow me away. If you’re looking for a sweet romance with the perfect amounts of smut, and a kind of unique “help me make a baby” trope, then I definitely recommend Baby Daddy.

“Love is fucking terrifying.”

I’ve never met a Kendall Ryan romance that I didn’t want to just sink my whole heart into. She sets that swoon factor bar WAY high and no romance reader even stands a chance! I absolutely LOVE a good stuck-in-an-elevator romance and Ms. Ryan put her signature stamp on that trope and RAN WITH IT! Emmett and Jenna ran away with my heart! I adored their coupling and their adorable meet-cute moment! Everything about Ms. Ryan’s latest standalone romance had me on the edge of my seat…not because their was a suspenses factor, but because I craved the next meeting, the next kiss, the next sexy time. I devoured this book in a couple of hours and I immediately wanted to be thrown back into this world.

I’m in a constant state of HAPPY when I dive into a romance by the lovely Kendall Ryan. She gives us characters that are amazing and unforgettable, storylines that will make us laugh, cry, and blush, and a happily ever after that we didn’t even know that we craved! The only thought after I devoured the very last page was I NEED TO DO THIS ALL OVER AGAIN! I want that feeling coursing through my veins every second of every day and for an author to have that affect on me, well, that is something special. I’m not surprised in the least because as far as I can remember, this author has brought a smile to my face over and over and over again! I can always count on a laugh…on a good cry…on experiencing ALL THE FEELS when it comes to the fabulous writing of Ms. Kendall Ryan.

Get ready to FALL HARD for Emmett, ladies! He is JUST what you need! I guarantee it!

If you crave your romances with a hefty side of SEXY baby-making lovin’ along with playful banter that with tint your cheeks…get ready to fall in LOVE with Baby Daddy!

Jenna is on her way to her appointment at the sperm bank when she gets stuck in an elevator with Emmett. They get chatting after a while and she tells him what she was planning to do. Jenna is 35 years old and really wants to be a mum. With no decent pickings when it comes to men she has decided to go with the sperm donor option.

Emmett seems to have trouble getting his head around the whole idea of anyone being impregnated by a sperm donation. Jenna is a gorgeous woman who could have any guy she wants, surely this isn’t her last resort?

After they get out of the elevator, Emmett offers to take Jenna out for a meal and she enjoyed his company so why not? It is at this dinner that he expresses that he is more than willing to help Jenna out in the more traditional way and impregnate her. So generous of him!

Jenna finds herself agreeing to Emmett’s proposition and in the beginning it all feels very clinical, not something that Emmett is used to, he likes a bit more passion and enthusiasm in his sexual excounters. He eventually has Jenna thinking the same way and they get down to ‘business.’ Jenna has to admit that Emmett really does know what he is doing.

What is very unexpected for Emmett is how into this whole arrangement he ends up being. He now knows a lot more than he ever has about the female reproductive body parts and yes, eventually, pregnancy.

This was my indulgent weekend audio read, no angst, lots of cute moments and the classic trope of ‘this is just an arrangement, no feelings will come into this.’ We all know how that works out!

I had to force myself to finish. This was boring. They were trapped in an elevator for 2 hours. But it seemed like they had only 15minutes worth of conversation.
They come to an agreement of conceivimg a baby without any information about each other whatsoever which is 100% unbelievable.
Even if it's a book you need to make sure atleast 20% is believable.
And major "You've got mail" movie similarity.
Shop around the corner vs Corporate.
Disappointed considering the wait.

From now on, every time I’m in an elevator, I’m going to remember this story!

Kendall Ryan delivers a lustful, erotic, and emotional page-tuner with Baby Daddy.

No strings….just sex. Just sex….to make a baby.

Seriously, there’s no point in describing what this book is about, because the synopsis hits the story right on the head. Jenna wants a baby, and Emmett steps up to the plate and nails her, er…I mean, IT, right out of the park. But when an unexpected connection and strong emotions come into play, neither one of them are ready to say goodbye.

Never a dull moment, Baby Daddy starts off with a bang, and the storyline keeps you intrigued until the very end. The unique relationship that Emmett and Jenna find themselves in is not an uncommon trope. But with the magnificent writing abilities of the author, and the ever-imaginative dialogue, the story quickly turns into one that will make readers fall head-over-heels!

Emmett and Jenna have undeniable chemistry; this is discovered from the get-go. But what we’re given is a more in-depth tale of taking this unconventional relationship and exploring the underlying possibilities of passion, devotion, and love.

A love story that perfectly blends seductive and steamy desires with affectionate and wistful romance, Baby Daddy is an expressive and refreshing book, that’s sure to leave a smile on your face!

5 Stars!

This was a light, funny, and sexy read! Emmett and Jenna were easy to like and had great chemistry. I had a bit of a hard time getting past the initial premise of the book (that a random stranger would be willing and eager to impregnate someone and that the other person would also be receptive to this), but once I let that go, the story flowed easily and was fun.

description

I appreciated that the hero and heroine were older and more mature in this book. They have a pretty unconventional meet cute and arrangement in the beginning, but I liked that after that, things progressed naturally and organically between them. Jenna was smart and driven and I admired how she knew what she wanted and went after it. I'm always wary of the manwhore hero, but even though Emmett had a more colorful past, it wasn't something prevalent in the book. Honestly, had it not been mentioned, he would have come across as a very attentive, loving, and loyal partner. Both characters were guarded and wary of love, however, so it wasn't surprising that they were reluctant to come to terms with their growing feelings. There is some angst and the usual push and pull, but overall, this was a pretty lighthearted read. The epilogue was perfectly sweet and fans of Kendall Ryan will certainly enjoy Emmett and Jenna's story.

English review down below :)

“Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. She’s still wearing her bra.
I skim my hand down over the delightfully round curve of her hip and feel a waistband. She’s still wearing panties too. No wonder I’m thinking about Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, because apparently Jenna’s relying on immaculate conception to get pregnant.”

I expect this book too eagerly. Because I love this author. However, the book seemed rushed because it is a little short. And obviously, there was no difference from other books about this title.

Jenna 35 years, a woman who has now decided to have a child. So he goes to the sperm bank. They are stuck with Emmett in the elevator while going to the clinic. When Emmett learns about Jenna's situation, he proposes to lend a hand (!) And starts the stories. But there is one thing they did not know: they are actually two business rivals.

I finished reading the book in a clap, I love the way the author writes. But it was not different or great. It's a book to have a good time. The characters were mature and acted logically. I really do not know what to say more because there is really nothing to keep in mind like that :(

Kendall Ryan's books are always amazing to me. They are always Sassy, Swoony and Sexy. I love her main leads as they always deliver with the fantastic banter, hot chemistry and a beautiful love story. I could not get enough of Jenna and Emmett and their connection. What started as an impersonal agreement quickly escalates to something they need and ultimately couldn't live without. I could not get enough!

Emmett Smith is all about having fun but is one and done with commitment as he only has time for his work. His motto based on his own family experience: "Why get married and have kids when it'll lead to unhappiness especially when work comes first." But then he meets Jenna, a 35 year old career oriented woman who realizes all her years of devotion and hardwork to her business allowed her personal life to take a back seat. Her solution: a plan for single motherhood and a date with a sperm bank. But enter Fate: one stopped elevator, chance meeting and fiery chemistry later, Emmett now has Jenna convinced to give him a chance to be the "stud" for her future baby. But when lines get crossed and feelings develop, can these two realize what they have right in front of them is worth a chance at forever?

This book was amazing!! It was a hot and fun story that really hit the spot. It was sweet and sexy and gave me all the feels. Emmett and Jenna delivered the laughs, swoons and hot sexytimes that Kendall Ryan's books are known for!! While the twist was something that we could see a mile away, it was very well done and highly entertaining. I look forward to more from this author in the future. Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula
