Maine Gov at Odds With Sec. of State on Voter Information Request

PORTLAND, Maine - Maine's Republican governor says the state's secretary of state is making a mistake by denying a request for voter data made by a Trump commission.

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, a Democrat, has declined to comply with a request by the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, which is investigating possible voter fraud.

Gov. Paul LePage says he believes Dunlap "takes his orders from the Democratic Party'' and that it's wise to try to "clean up voter registries.'' He made the comments during a radio appearance on WGAN-AM on Thursday.

Dunlap says LePage is "trying to get a reaction'' and that he still feels his denial of the commission's request was appropriate. Dunlap has expressed concerns that the commission's request runs afoul of state law.
