Nobel Peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi’s original citation, which was stolen from his residence in Kalkaji’s Aravali Apartment complex on February 7, has been recovered by Delhi Police late on Friday evening. It was found in a waterproof bag in the forest area of DDA Ridge Land near Sangam Vihar .
Police said a team of 15 officers was assigned the job of finding the citation.
DCP (South-east district) Romil Baaniya said: “All the areas that were covered by the thieves (who were arrested on February 12) in those five days were searched by the teams and with the help of a dog squad and mounted police.” Areas around Ghaziabad, Sangam Vihar, Kalkaji, Aravali Apartments and Govind Puri were combed before the team located the document.
Despite repeated questioning, the three thieves, Vinod (35), Sonu (28) and Rajan (25) didn’t provide the police any information about the citation because to them it was nothing but a piece of paper. The citation was found undamaged because it was placed inside a waterproof bag by the thieves and had been kept covered with a plastic sheet by Mr. Satyarthi.
Mr. Satyarthi, in a statement, said: “I am thankful to the Delhi Police for their efforts to recover the Nobel Replica and the original citation. The Nobel belongs to every Indian citizen and child. Since I am the son of a policeman, I have always understood their sense of responsibility and commitment towards the nation.”
