University Mixed Outdoor Nationals 2017-18 Information Pack
We look forward to seeing you at UXON 2017-18. We hope you will have an enjoyable and competitive weekend, and we believe the information contained in this pack will facilitate this. Contact details for the organisers are included if you do have further questions.

Address: Salford Sports Village, 325 Littleton Road, Salford, M7 3NQ
Directions: From Bury New Road, take the A6044 Hilton Road. Turn right at the first mini-roundabout, then left at the second. The sports centre is on the right.
Parking: Use the centre’s car park
Arrival: To the right of the centre is a gate, go through the gate and follow the path to the pitches. Please report to the TD desk by the pitches on arrival to receive any new instructions or any changes to this information. There will not be a separate captain’s meeting, but every team should make sure that a representative checks in on arrival. If you don’t, don’t blame us when you don’t know what’s going on!
Times: Games will start at 9.30am on both days. We hope to be finished by 5pm at the latest on Sunday. The schedule will not be released until a lot closer to the tournament but you will either start in the first or second game slot so we recommend that you just aim to get there in time for a 9am game!
Tournament rules are as follows:
55 minute games. Cap of 13 points. Half at 7. 1 timeout per team, per half.
When time is up, finish the point then reduce points cap to current highest score +1.
The HARD CAP is when the hooter signalling the start of the next game goes and you are to finish the possession. Draws can occur.
We’re running the same format as last year’s UXON: Swiss Draw.
There are no pools, or knockout rounds. As the tournament goes on, you play against teams whose performance is closer and closer to your own. On saturday, teams will be divided into 2 equal groups of 16. Each group of 16 will play in alternate game spots i.e. odd seeds will play in gameslots 1, 3 and 5.
After Saturday the top 16 teams and bottom 16 teams will be reshuffled into new groups to give you further opportunity to play teams of your standard.
Game rounds cannot be generated until all scores are in i.e. Round 3 cannot be generated until the scores of Round 1 are all in. DO NOT WALK AWAY FROM YOUR FIELD UNTIL YOU SCORE HAS BEEN COLLECTED.
Swiss draw takes into account not only the score of your game (down to how many points each team scores) but also how well you and your opposition have done so far. Winning by a margin of 3 will give you a better Swiss Draw score than if you win by 2. Beating a strong team by 3 is better than beating a weak team by 3.
We DON’T intend to print out schedules and copies of this pack for every team. Please make sure you bring your own (or ensure you can access it through your phone) if you need a copy. There will be a large up to date copy at the TD desk throughout the weekend of course.
There is a café on site serving hot drinks and light snacks. There are also vending machines selling drinks and small snacks
There is a cafe and a small shop 2 minutes up the road.
Water will be available from the main building but it’s a bit of a walk away from the pitches so make sure that you bring more than one water bottle and fill them up before your game! Especially if you have a back-to-back!!
Please do not leave your litter lying around. No one wants to pick up your discarded banana skin at the end of the day.
If you requested accommodation for the event, you will have been contacted directly either confirming your space/informing you that we are unable to find you any.
More information will be published on the Uni Facebook groups.
Spirit scores will be entered through an online form, which can be found here:
You should be able to access the form on your smartphone (or one of your team-mates’ phones – some models seem to struggle more than others) and facilities will be available at the TD desk to input your scores if you can’t get it to work – but be aware there may be a queue for just one laptop there! Use your phone if you can.
If you’re having trouble with the link on your phone, make sure you open the link in your external browser (Chrome, Safari etc) and NOT in the Facebook browser. That seems to be the source of most issues.
Please enter scores as promptly as you are able – in particular, we expect to award a spirit trophy based on the results that have been entered before the presentation. If you fail to enter your scores on the day, it is of course still worth entering them later as it improves the feedback your opponents receive, but if you can enter them on the day it would be far better.
(If you end up, a week after the tournament, with the highest spirit – but someone else took the trophy – that’s hard luck I’m afraid. Take it up with the teams who submit late!)
First aid will be provided by ARSL. They will have ice should you need it.
For serious incidents, the nearest hospital is:
North Manchester General Hospital, Delaunays Rd, Crumpsall, Manchester M8 5RB
0161 624 0420
Or call 999 for an ambulance.
The schedule link will be posted on the website event page when ready: https://www.ukultimate.com/2018/03/17/uku_university_mixed_outdoor_nationals_201718
The tournament will be played under the 2017 WFDF rules.
All other game rules, game lengths and formats are explained on the schedule itself.
A pitch map will be available at the TD desk.
