Emerging midfielder Cameron Guthrie has signed a new three-year contract with Geelong that will tie him to the club until the end of 2018.

The 22-year-old is one of the most impressive members of the next generation of Cats, capable of being a creative onballer as well as tagging some of the game's best midfielders.

He is enjoying arguably a career-best season this year with an average of 20 disposals, nine contested possessions and five tackles per game.

In 2015, Guthrie is ranked fourth at Geelong for tackles, clearances and contested possessions and fifth for disposals.

Guthrie joins Tom Hawkins, Darcy Lang, Jackson Thurlow and Jed Bews as players who have re-signed with Geelong in the last month.

"I was pretty keen to hang around and play some good footy for the club, and hopefully that contains a premiership, which would be outstanding," Guthrie told Geelong's website.

"I think the fact that so many other players have signed on with the club shows there's good loyalty from both the club and the players.

"It's an exciting place to be around. The team's playing some great footy and it's great to be a part of it."

Guthrie, who was taken at pick No.23 in the 2010 draft, has played 81 games since debuting for Geelong 2011.

His star teammates Steven Motlop, Steve Johnson and Jimmy Bartel are yet to re-sign with the club beyond this season.

Meanwhile, Essendon have re-signed promising youngster Orazio Fantasia for another two years until the end of 2017.
