A Word for Fathers: Talk to Your Soul!
Dear Friends (especially those who are fathers),
Do you ever talk to yourself? King David did, and in these days of seemingly growing evil, we should follow his example.
In Psalm 103, David speaks to his soul and gives himself a directive--Bless the Lord! He reminds himself of who the Lord is and all the reasons he has to praise Him. He begins and ends the psalm by saying, "Praise the Lord, O my soul!"
A family recently attended Radical Time Out, devastated by the horrific crime their son had committed. As we surrounded them to pray, I knew I could not fully understand their pain; however, there were three other fathers in the room who could. Before me were four families -- not from the city of Chicago, but from the suburbs -- whose children had been charged with murder. Three of the sons are already serving sentences ranging from 27 to 45 years.
Praise God our Father for the truths in Psalm 103. In this one song are words that can be prayed for everyone involved in these heartbreaking situations. Promises of forgiveness of sins (v. 3, 10, 12), promises of justice (v. 6), promises of God's everlasting love to those who fear and obey Him (v. 17-18). Promises for the offenders, the victims' families, and the offenders' families.
Would you join me in praying the words of Psalm 103 for these four families, for the victims' families, for those across our nation and world who need to know that our Creator God is a good, good Father, and that He has a wonderful son Jesus?
As we celebrate Father's Day this weekend, this is a good time for us all to do some soul-talk and, like King David, admonish ourselves to "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits" (Psalm 103:2).

This year, we've been approaching God our Father in child-like faith and asking Him to surprise us, to show us how He's working in ways that we would know that only He could be responsible. Last weekend, during our Freedom God's Way ministry in Robinson and Stateville Correctional Centers we had two inmates actually stop us and essentially ask, "What must I do to be saved?"
We have a full schedule for the next few weeks. Please pray for God's continued blessing on these upcoming ministries:
