Joe Mahaffey Medical Fund

Joe is my beloved fiancé and my best friend. Joe is from Knowlton and I am from Blairstown. We met in 2004 at North Warren Regional High School and started dating shortly after prom weekend. About 9 months ago we bought our first home together in Knowlton Twp and recently got engaged on July 16, 2016.

Joe has always been the life of the party and a great friend to many. He's known for his patriotism (American flag T-shirts), his engaging personality and that captivating smile with those awesome dimples. Our dog, Nixon, is his pride and joy and his family means everything to him. He's a hardworking man with a huge heart. He's a loving uncle, supportive little brother, caring son & my whole entire world.

Joe loved to ride his motorcycle - it was his happy place, but on Saturday, August 20th, he went for a ride to the Hawks Nest with his father and had an accident on the way home. We may never know what happened to cause the accident that evening, but we thank God everyday that he is alive. He had to taken by MediEvac to Lehigh Valley Hospital (a level 1 trauma center) and is still currently in the trauma neuro intensive care unit. He sustained many serious injuries and needed to have two surgeries. Though he is slowly improving, his road to recovery is going to be a very long one. Upon discharge from the hospital, Joe will be transferred to an acute rehabilitation center for what could be weeks/months.

As many of you can imagine, it has been a very tough two weeks for us, his family and friends. The outpouring of love, support, prayers, and positive vibes from this wonderful community we live in and grew up in has been amazing and so greatly appreciated. Many of you have asked what you can do to help us  further and while asking for financial assistance is not easy, the medical bills have already begun to come in (the mediEvac alone was $55,000). While Joe does have some motorcycle & medical insurance, it is very limited and will certainly not be enough to cover the expenses that will accumulate.

We deeply appreciate any amount you can contribute along with your continued prayers. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Sincerely,

Ashley Thorn, Joe Mahaffey & our families
