Kiefer Sutherland is the new Snake

Hayter will be in the game somewhere. Kiefer playing "Snake", when this game is confirmed to be about Big Boss.

Ishmael confirmed as Kiefer according to Keighley... This is all too weird!

Kiefer plays Big Boss, Hayter plays Solid Snake, who we bump into at some point in the game?

"You got two choices. You leave quietly, we take the body. Or, you can stay, we beat the shit out of you, we take the body"

"This is 'big time', baby." Would've been a better quote.

HOLY SHIT. I didn't expect it, after these recent tweets from Hayter I thought he would be voicing Snake as usual. Time for an avatar change!

It's gonna be weird having Kiefer as Snake, but I love 24 so as far as I'm concerned this E3 is already delivering :D. Though I'm disappointed that we don't have a trailer yet.

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering too...

LOL amazing avatar!

He's just ensured that this game has gone from pre-order status to possibly never buying it. Unless he can give a DAMN good reason before it launches, I'm not even sure I'll be buying it.

Wanting a better actor is not a valid reason.

That is literally the most valid reason anyone could have.

Still, it will be weird. Snake has be defined by Hayter's VA, so even though I'm ok with this there will be an adjustment period.

I think Hayter has been pretty good throughout the series so this is frustrating. It isn't just about the voice, but it is also about the character too. A voice goes a long way in bringing life and personality to a character, especially one who has been voiced by someone for so long. The voice of Hayter is the voice of Snake / Big Boss. Sutherland is a great actor and I'm a fan of his and I'd be happy with him being in the game as anyone else but Snake, I just can't get behind this idea. I'm sure at some point we'll hear Snake reminisce about something that happened in the past (MGS3, Peace Walker) and it'll just take me right out.

It is really strange to me... I'm having a real hard time getting excited for the game because they are taking away a key part of such an integral and important character that I've been accustomed too for so many years.

David Hayter seemed like a cool guy, but as the production values of each game got better, his voice just got cheesier and cheesier, in my opinion. I liked him in the original PlayStation game, but I was also like 13 at the time. I think Kiefer will do a much better job as Snake.

Wanting a better actor/performance from the main character in your story focused game is not a valid reason? What?

No. Snake already has an established voice. You can't just drop that because you think you might be able to do better.

See, there's a reason why you are on neogaf talking about and speculating about video games and why Hideo Kojima has had one of the most revered and prolific careers in game history.

Dead serious. This will probably completely ruin the game for me. Metal Gear Solid is like 90% talking, and not hearing the correct voice actor ruins things.

You're lucky Sutherland was available I heard Gilbert Gottfried was their second choice.

Yeah I think you can.

Oh rock of ages, do not crumble, love is breathing still. Oh lady moon shine down, a little people magic if you will.
....i'm suprisingly okay with this.
It's going to need some getting used to, for sure. But Kojima's points are valid. David Hayter's a really good voice-actor, but that's exactly the point. A voice-actor.

Anyhow, really intrigued.

getting rid of david hayter is a good decision. good riddance. sorry.

i'm a super fan of akio otsuka voice acting and i've always wanted someone who would give a similar excellent performance. i hope keifer sutherland will be a good replacement for hayter.

It's funny that he still held out hope that he would somehow voice Snake. The game has BEEN in production dude give it up lol. This is just sad.

He didn't. He's just been attention whoring.

He'll always be Solid Snake. Nobody can take that away from him.

Probably because Keifer can actually act, and since its motion capture based, Keifer has more experience. I'm not sure Hayter could pull off the facial acting that was necessary for MGSV.

Has this been mentioned; thread is moving fast, but I've alwys been curious why I constantly hear Kiefer with an American accent. He's English, no?

Anyway, really interested to hear what he can do. Hayter's rasp was getting out of control IMO.

basically Kojima saying Hayter is not capable of doing facial capture while Otsuka Akio can

This actually may be a big part of the decision.

We all know Kojima is a Hollywood fanatic. Japan's live-action scene is.... eh, and Akio Otsuka is already a high caliber seiyuu, so there's no real incentive to replace him either (and it is reasonable to guess that Kiefer's motion capture is going to be driving Big Boss, not the Japanese side of things).

But you have David Hayter, who despite being Snake for over a decade, really isn't that much of an actor. And no, Hayter's performance in Guyver 2 doesn't count. Yeah, he's a good script writer (and a debatable voice actor), but it seemed like Kojima really wanted to drive both a Hollywood focus for MGS5 and good motion capture. And if a good actor with a voice that can somewhat fall in line with Big Boss is actually interested, I could see Kojima jumping on that chance in a heartbeat. So now Kojima has a good actor that can really drive all of the new FOX Engine mo-cap shit better than Hayter or some other person acting independent of the voice could have, and potentially a good voice actor.

This is my speculation, but on the other side of the coin, Sutherland might be expensive as hell if he's doing both facial mo-cap (and given his Jack Bauer experience, maybe mo-cap in other areas too) on top of voice acting, so we'll see what Kojima does with this after MGS5. It either could be the beginning of a new relationship, or it could be a one-off thing.

Yeah, it sucks that Hayter got the shaft in the way that he did. But I can at least understand why Kojima jumped at this kind of opportunity. Plus, it isn't like Hayter didn't have a good decade-long run.

Edit: C'mon Hayter. That post would have actually been classy, but that New Coke dig wasn't necessary.

I like the part in which Hayter gets salty about this. Even tho everyone knows its pretended shit cos he is still gonna be in the game in some form.

Looking forward to MGS games getting postponed because Kiefer has a movie to shoot.

And people claiming that Hayter got bad are silly. Do you really think it was his deciscion to sound extra raspy during MGS4? Its the audio director who makes those calls. Professional voice actors just deliver what those want

Hahahahahahah...seriously?
David Hayter is a voice actor, not an actor.... they needed the whole package this time because of motion capture

I miss David, but getting an actor because of motion capture work is perfectly reasonable

Probably because to date he hasn't done anything retarded like ruin his most iconic character.
