For Front End Development, it is gradually including User Interface as a part of it. Today, websites are focusing on improving user experiences especially in fields like eCommerce and social media networking. But the trends have changed and so have the rules in Front End Development.

Coming from the background of Outsourcing Front End Development, I have figured a set of rules for myself that I would like to share today so that you as a Front End Developer can create better designs and improved user interfaces.

Rule 1: Typography is the Mantra

Choosing typefaces for your website can be challenging and the most interesting part while designing for it. When you are a Front End Developers, you need to work in sync with the design while you keep the functionality for the users in mind. Here, you need to bring attention to the main points of the home page that drive further engagement and also take the users to the other sections of the website.

You know Typography can influence the look and feel of the website. Select a team where you have a typographer who can select a good pair of fonts for your Front End Development. Also, you need to ensure that the select of fonts suits the message being conveyed by the business or organization. As font is one element that culminates in the overall look and feel along with the graphics. Select a font family and stick to it. Select a different font for the headings and another for the body to bring about the difference and attention wavelength to the headers and body of the content. Typography has also evolved with the changing times, but what is important is how successfully you are able to make use of it.

Rule 2: Broaden Your Vision – See the Bigger Picture

You know there are times when you look at the picture and think the background could have been better. The same happens with Front End Development. Especially, when it is about Front End Development because you are to create a design and also think about the users at the same time. Many tend to have a tunnel vision where they miss out on the bigger picture. I understand the focus needs to the content or the graphics, pictures on the website but sometimes we get carried away with the focus points and forget the secondary points. But both need to balance and both need equal attention.

Pay attention to other small details that make a big difference to the overall Front End. Make sure you have a plan and have the design files handy so that you do not miss out these factors. One technique that works for me is “Taking a Screenshot of the Program”. And then go ahead design within it. This keeps me in the loop and I don’t lose the track.

Rule 3: Follow Hierarchy

As a Front End Developer, I am sure you understand the importance of hierarchy in Front End Development. This rule is of utmost importance as this can be the deciding factor for a good navigation. For this reason, a Front End Developer needs to focus on aspects like space between the titles and body. Using white space and alignments needs to be undertaken with utmost care. Which elements, titles or body text will go where and which needs to be in the focus. Define the relationship between the content and action that is required and then accordingly decide the functionality, placements and space usage for the same.

The characteristic of a good Front End Developers is being able to respect hierarchy in website design and respecting the relationship of design elements. By following a hierarchy, you offer a more organized experience and thus navigation is much clear and crisp. It makes your design neat. Moreover, it offers and clear perspective and strikes that chord for users to go ahead explore.
